Ohio.com and Akron Beacon Journal History

Founded in 1839, the Akron Beacon Journal is a four-time Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper that serves readers in Summit, Medina, Portage, Stark and Wayne counties. The Beacon Journal is active in founding and supporting organizations, programs and events that promote the well-being of the Greater Akron community. These include the Millennium Fund for Children, First Night Akron, the Coming Together Project, Summit Education Initiative, United Way and Harvest for Hunger.

Founded in 1995, Ohio.com is the online partner of the Akron Beacon Journal and is Ohio's leading online source of news, weather, sports, obits, entertainment, classifieds, real estate, rental and automotive listings in Northeast Ohio. Awarded Ohio's Best Web Site by the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists in 2004 and 2006; Awarded Ohio's Best Web Site by the Cleveland Press Club in 2007.
