500 coaster enthusiasts to campout tonight on Cedar Point’s famed midway

By Craig Webb Published: July 18, 2014

Cedar Point says more than 500 roller coaster fans have signed up to participate in the park’s first Coaster Campout.

The event kicks into high gear at 10 p.m. tonight when the participants will get some exclusive ride time on the park’s Maverick, Mine Ride and Skyhawk until midnight. Registration for the event that was limited to members of national coaster clubs is now closed.

Since the park is open until midnight, the event will force the park to close some rides in Frontiertown early tonight. The Mean Streak, Maverick, Wave Swinger and Antique Cars will close at 8 p.m. The Mine Ride and Skyhawk will close at 10 p.m.

Cedar Point said the participants "will be treated to a few overnight surprises."

The park promises a unique wake-up call so the participants can enjoy exclusive ride time on the Millennium Force and GateKeeper roller coasters from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
