Cedar Point’s Blue Streak roller coaster is celebrating its 50th birthday today.
Cedar Point says the ride opened to the public on this day in 1964.
The park plans to mark the milestone at a special ceremony being planned for June 21.
Considered a traditional “Out and Back” style of coaster, it was built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company.
While not as nutty as many of the other coasters at the park, its whisks its way down the track at 40 mph for 1 minute and 45 seconds.
When we visited the park last year, I was somewhat surprised to see the height requirement is 48 inches. It struck me as odd considering my youngest was able to ride very similar “old-time” coasters at Kennywood just a month earlier, but was just shy at the Point.
Here is Cedar Point's announcement:
Did you know the Blue Streak roller coaster opened on this day back in 1964? This year, it celebrates its 50th Anniversary!
Join us for a special ceremony on Saturday, June 21.
