Cedar Point to remain closed Sunday; water main blamed

By Craig Webb Published: June 7, 2014

Cedar Point and Soak City will remain closed a second day on Sunday as crews work to repair a major water main break to the popular summer resort.

The park closed shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday after the water main on the pennisula broke affecting the resort's water supply.

Some guests were already inside the park as it offers early admission to resort guests.

The water issue has also forced park officials to close the historic Hotel Breakers, Sandcastle Suites and Lighthouse Point on Saturday and Sunday.

Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark Resort and Breaker Express hotel were not impacted by the break and remain open.

This weekend was to be a busy one for Cedar Point as it was hosting dozens of national and international roller coaster clubs as part of its CoasterMania and marathon rides on some of its coasters to raise money for charity.

Cedar Point will honor this weekend's tickets any time in the 2014 season.

Park officials say they hope to reopen the resort on Monday.

Crews plan to continue to work on repairs on Sunday and restore water pressure to all areas of the resort. The water will then have to be tested to ensure it is safe to consume.
