Free miniature train rides Saturday in Medina County

By Craig Webb Published: June 20, 2014

You don’t have to head out to an amusement park this weekend to ride a miniature train.

The Northeastern Ohio Live Steamers (NEOLS) club will be offering free rides on small-scale replica trains from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lester Rail Trail.

The park is located on Lester Road in York Township about a mile north of state Route 18.

This Saturday marks the first of five free rides the club will offer this season.

Other dates include: 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.

The group’s popular Halloween-themed rides will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 18.

The trains take riders through grasslands and across miniature bridges and trestles and through replica train stations.

Passengers — adults and children — ride atop replica box cars and other train cars pulled by replica diesel and steam engines.

The groups offer the periodic free rides as part of its partnership with the Medina County Parks District to use the land along an abandoned rail corridor.
