Aeros 3, Senators 2: Carlos Moncrief hits walk-off single in 15th, longest game of season

By Stephanie Storm Published: May 30, 2013

It took 15 innings, but Aeros right fielder Carlos Moncrief  put an end to the longest game of the season with a bases loaded walk off single up the middle to hand the patient Aeros a 3-2 victory.

Senators right fielder Steven Souza Jr. wiped out an early Aeros one-run lead with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. But Aeros first baseman Jesus Aguilar sent the game into extra innings with a solo homer in the ninth.

From there, the Aeros bullpen tossed eight scoreless innings to give the offense chance after chance to end the game. The bullpen’s impressive streak included three perfect frames by right-hander Rob Nixon.

Aeros starting pitcher Matt Packer made just one mistake – and it cost him in the form of Souza’s homer. Before that, the left-hander cruised. He scattered seven hits and struck out six over seven innings.

The extra innings gave Aeros second baseman Ronny Rodriguez extra time to extend his hitting streak to 10 games with a 10th inning single.

The Aeros hit the road for a three-game road trip to Reading that begins tonight at 7:05 p.m. with Aeros right-hander Toru Murata (1-3, 4.19 ERA) slated to face Fightin’ Phillies left-hander Jesse Biddle (3-4, 3.15 ERA).
