Aeros beat Phillies 3-1 in series opener

Juan Diaz’s two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a one-one tie and allowed the Aeros to move on to a 3-1 victory over the Phillies at Canal Park.

Quick hits: Aeros starting pitcher T.J. Mcfarland earned the victory with seven innings of four hit baseball. He allowed one run, on a bases loaded sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. McFarland struck out five and walked two.

Connor Burns earned his 19th save of the season with two strikeouts in the ninth. Burns leads the Eastern League in saves.

The Aeros scored its first run when Beau Mills followed a matt McBride double with an RBI single in the fourth inning.

Next game: Aeros left-hander Kelvin De La Cruz (4-5, 4.41 ERA) will be opposed by right-hander Tyson Brummett (2-4, 3.21 ERA), 7:05 p.m., Saturday, WARF 1350-AM.
