Aeros defeat Flying Squirrels 15-5

Key situation: The host Aeros scored a season-high eight runs in the fourth inning Saturday night at Canal Park to hold an 11-1 lead. Kyle Bellows started the surge with a two-run home run to left-center that also scored Ryan Rohlinger. Following an out, the Aeros put together five hits in a row. Chun Chen singled in Roberto Perez, Juan Diaz doubled in Ben Copeland and Adam Abraham, and Thomas Neal tripled in Chen and Diaz. Neal capped the scoring in the fourth following an error.
 
Quick hits: Aeros left-hander Giovanni Soto pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win before a crowd of 4,104. Soto allowed three hits and one earned run. Squirrels righty Justin Fitzgerald took the loss after allowing seven earned runs and nine hits. . . . Copeland, Abraham, Chen, Diaz and Neal all had three hits. . . . Akron, which collected a season-high 19 hits, took a 2-0 lead in the first when Tim Fedroff and Copeland each got a hit and scored. . . . Diaz singled in Abraham in the third. . . . Abraham singled in Copeland in the fifth and scored on a wild pitch. Three batters later, Neal singled in Chen. . . . Neal singled in Copeland in the seventh.
 
Next game: The Aeros (25-14) will seek a three-game sweep against the Flying Squirrels (20-22) at 1:05 today at Canal Park. Akron left-hander T.J. McFarland (7-1, 1.86 ERA) and Richmond right-hander Craig Westcott (3-3, 4.08 ERA) are the scheduled pitchers.
