Aeros fall 7-4 to Binghamton

By Stephanie Published: June 4, 2011

Aeros 1B Beau Mills had given the host a promising 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the second inning Saturday night at Canal Park.

But trouble for Akron began soon thereafter when Aeros starter and RHP Austin Adams hit a wall in the third inning and dished up five runs as the Mets took a 5-1 lead they would never relinquish.

Binghamton (18-35) batted around during the early rally, chasing Adams from the game after a laborious 38-pitch inning. In 2 1/3 innings, Adams allowed the five runs off five hits and four walks while striking out five to fall to 4-5 on the season.

The B-Mets added solo insurance runs in the fourth and seventh innings against the Aeros bullpen.

Binghamton reliever and LHP Roy Merritt earned the win, as starter and RHP Brad Holt only went four innings despite giving up just one run while scattering six hits.

The Aeros did show some life late in the game, staging their own min rally by collecting three runs over the final two innings, before failing  to catch up. LF Tim Fedroff led the way on offense, going 3-for-5 with a RBI.

During his second game with the Aeros while on a rehabilitation stint, major league veteran and  DH Nick Johnson went 1-for-3 with a single and two walks.

Next up for the Aeros is the final game of this three-game home stand with Binghamton at 1:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Akron LHP T.J McFarland (1-4, 5.01 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Aeros and face Binghamton LHP Robert Carson (1-7, 4.08 ERA).
