Aeros 6, B-Mets 4
The Aeros batted around in the sixth inning to score four runs and take a 5-3 lead. Jordan Henry’s double scored Tim Fedroff and Cristo Arnal. A Juan Diaz triple scored Jordan Henry and Diaz scored on a single by Chun-Hsiu Chen.
``It was obviously the turning point in the game,'' Aeros manager Chris Tremie said.
Joe Gardner’s Double-A debut started shaky as he walked the first two batters. Leadoff hitter Lorenzo Scott stole second third and home on a double steal to give the B-Mets a 1-0 lead. After allowing two runs on four hits in the second inning, Gardner settled down and held the B-Mets scoreless throughout the next four innings. He finished with three strikeouts and four walks; limiting the B-Mets to three earned runs and five hits to earn the win…Left-fielder Donnie Webb hit his first Double-A home run, a solo shot by sending a 2-1 pitch over the center field wall in the seventh inning…Juan Diaz hit his second triple in as many days… Cory Burns did his best Hideo Nomo impression, by twisting his body nearly backward during his delivery. He picked up his first Double-A save by striking out three of four batters in the ninth.
Aeros manager Chris Tremie on Gardner's night:
``It showed a lot for him to come back after that first and second inning and ending up going six innings,'' Tremie said. ``He did an outstanding job.''
Gardner on his performance:
``I felt good. I felt strong. First couple of innings I was a little excited, but i calmed down and did the job,'' Gardner said. ``I just tried to keep the team in the ball game, thats what i try to do: give the team the best opportunity to win and we came back and did. I was really happy with that.''
On the first inning struggles:
``Just being a little too fine and not sticking to the game plan: staying consistently in the strike zone and let my defense do the work,'' Gardner said. ``I just started pounding the zone (in the later innings) a lot more often and let my defense do the work and they did a hell of a job.''
Next game: Left-hander Scott Barnes will get his first start of the season for the Aeros. Right-hander Brad Holt will start for the B-Mets.
Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore and reliever Joe Smith are both expected to continue their rehab with the Aeros Saturday.
