Aeros win Education Day game 9-5

Adam Abraham's RBI-single in the 7th proved to be the game winning run as the Aeros took down Bowie 9-5 in front of over 7,000 kids in one of the team's Education Days. The game started at 10:30 a.m. to allow 16 busloads of kids to attend the game. 

Abraham went 3-5 with three RBI and a double. Starter Giovanni Soto threw five scoreless innings before a three-run home run off the bat of Travis Adair and an error by Nick Weglarz tied the game at 5-5.

Education Day at Canal Park -- Aeros vs. Bowie

Sixteen busloads of kids from schools all around the area have filled Canal Park, most of them in colored shirts—yellow, green or pink—to identify their school. It's one of two Education Days the Aeros have done this season.

Bellows and McFarland sweep Eastern League weekly awards

A pair of Aeros players swept the Eastern League Weekly awards today, with third baseman Kyle Bellows earning the Player of the Week Award and starting pitcher T.J. McFarland honored as the Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 14th through May 20th.

Kyle Bellows, 23, batted .391 (9-for-23) with three doubles, three home runs, nine RBI, four runs scored, two walks and a .913 slugging percentage in six games for the Aeros last week.

Aeros defeat Richmond 3-2; McFarland stays hot

Quick Hits: T.J. McFarland improved to 8-1 for the season in the Aeros’ 3-1 win over Richmond Sunday.

He lasted seven innings, allowed one run and struck out six. He’s now allowed one run over his last 21 innings pitched.

Aeros post season highs in 16-3 victory over Richmond

The Aeros coaching staff held a half-hour hitters meeting before Friday’s weekend series against visiting Richmond kicked off. The result was so impressive – a season high in runs and hits - it’s probably worth having more meetings more often.

After warming up with a run in the first inning and two more in the third, the Aeros chased Richmond starter and LHP Michael Kickham (2-3, 2.81 ERA) from the game with a five-run fourth inning en route to a 16-3 victory.

Aeros fall on Mother's Day 8-4

The Aeros (22-12) dropped their third straight game to Harrisburg (20-16) on Mother’s Day Sunday 8-4. This brings Akron’s lead in the West over the Senators to three games.

Quick hits: The Senators took House’s pitches and sent them right back at him to the tune of three singles, a double and an RBI sac fly, all fielded by centerfielder Tim Fedroff and all in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Harrisburg added two more runs in the third.

Notes: Brach is making his first start this season after being promoted to Class-AA Akron from Class-A Carolina today. Brach went 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA in six appearances (four starts) this season with the Mudcats. He made five starts for the Aeros last season and posted a 1-2 record with a 4.45 ERA. . . . Right-handed pitcher Paolo Espino was called up to Class-AAA Columbus. . . . Akron entered Saturday leading the Eastern League's Western Division by five games over Harrisburg. . . . Goedert is second in the Eastern League in batting average at .375 and Fedroff is seventh at .336.

Langwell promoted, Berger returns and Aeros homestand continues

Double-A Akron RHP Matt Langwell was promoted to Triple-A Columbus Friday. The 26-year old had been a key member of the Aeros bullpen, owning a 0.63 ERA and three saves in 10 relief appearances.


In 14 2/3 innings, Langwell, the Indians 11th-round selection in the 2008 draft out of Rice University, struck out 18 batters. He also made 12 appearances with the Clippers last season, going 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA.

Aeros cruise to doubleheader sweep over Erie

The Aeros rode their pitching staff to a doubleheader sweep of Erie Tuesday at Canal Park, the hurlers combining to hold the SeaWolves to one run over 14 innings.

The Aeros won the first seven-inning game 1-0, as starter and LHP T.J. House tossed a two-hit shutout over six innings to earn the win, striking out seven and walking two. Aeros C Roberto Perez drove in the lone run with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly.

Wright E.L. Pitcher of the Week; Aeros return home for 7-game homestand

Aeros RHP Steven Wright was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week.
In his two appearances last week, the 27-year old went 1-0 with a 0.59 ERA over 15 1/3 innings, including a complete-game shutout Sunday at Bowie.


The Torrance, Calif., native made his first start of the week last Monday night against the visiting Binghamton Mets. Although he earned a no-decision, he limited the B-Mets to a run on six hits while striking out five and walking three over 6 1/3 innings.

Aeros 8-game winning streak snapped in 7-3 loss to B-Mets

With the Aeros having to go with an inexperienced spot starter in RHP Mason Radeke (recently called up from low Class-A Lake County) after Sunday’s double header left the their starting rotation short, the B-Mets posted three-run first and fourth innings and never looked back en route to a 7-3 victory Thursday at Canal Park.

Aeros starting pitcher Giovanni Soto limited the Binghamton to a run on four hits en route to a 3-1 win Wednesday at Canal Park.

The left-hander struck out nine and walking two, improving to 3-0 with a 3.33 ERA on the season.

Aeros win 7th straight, top Binghamton 6-5 in 10 innings

After falling behind visiting Binghamton 5-1 Tuesday night at Canal Park, the Aeros rallied to force extra innings before C Chun Chen completed the comeback with a walk-off RBI single to right field that gave the host a 6-5 victory in 10 innings.
