After being held to four runs in three losses to their previous opponent Trenton, the Aeros offense took their frustrations out on their new opponent Friday at Canal Park.

In the first game of a three-game set against visiting New Britain, the Aeros pounded the Rock Cats 13-4, with a season-high 17 hits, while their 13 runs matched a season high.

But first, the host spotted New Britain an early 1-0 lead via a fielder's choice RBI in the second inning.

In the bottom of the inning, the Aeros got to work. They rallied for four runs, including the last two coming via 2B Jose Ramirez’s home run, to take a 4-1 lead. Aeros CF Tyler Holt increased the lead to four runs with a two-out RBI double in the third inning.

New Britain inched to within two runs with a two-spot in the fourth that began with a leadoff homer by 1B Reynaldo Rodriguez, cutting the defeicit to 5-3.

But the Aeros responded with three more runs in the bottom of that inning to chase Rock Cats starter RHP Tom Stuifbergen (1-1) and push the lead back to five runs. Aeros C Jake Lowery sparked the attack with a lead off home run up the right field line.

New Britain responded in the top of the next inning when 3B Miguel Sano hit a two-out solo homer to pull the visitors to within 8-4 of Akron. But the Aeros responded in an even bigger way, plating four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 12-4 lead.

With the comfortable lead, Indians rehabber and RHP Blake Wood (recovering from Tommy John surgery) took the mound in relief for the Aeros in the seventh inning. In one inning of work, he walked two, struck out one and issued a balk. He threw 22 pitches, 10 for strikes.

In the bottom of the inning, the Aeros added their final run during a two-out rally when Holt drove in 1B Jesus Aguliar with a run-scoring single.

On offense, the Aeros Ramirez (2-for-5 with game-high three RBI and two runs scored) and  SS Ronny Rodriguez (3-for-6 with two runs scored and one RBI) led the way.

Despite giving up four runs on 11 hits (including two home runs) in five innings, Aeros starter and RHP Will Roberts earned the win to improve to 5-4.
