The Aeros batters pounded Harrisburg starter and RHP Jeff Mandel for six runs (five earned) in just three innings – including posting a four-run first inning – and never looked back.
The Aeros quickly built a seven-run lead against the visiting Senators, adding solo runs to the first-inning four spot with runs in each of innings two through four.
Shortstop Juan Diaz (3-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored) and first baseman Chun Chen (3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored) led the way offensively for the Aeros.
With the big lead with which to work, Aeros starter and LHP T.J. McFarland cruised through seven shutout innings, scattering five hits and striking out four while improving to 6-1 with a 2.18 ERA.
Aeros reliever Bryan Price finished off the Senators over the final two innings, allowing just two hits.
The Aeros and Senators continue this four-game series with Game Two tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Akron RHP Steven Wright (3-1, 1.13 ERA) is slated to face Harrisburg LHP Danny Rosenbaum (4-0, 0.81 ERA) on the mound.
