The Aeros placed four players on the Eastern All-Star Game, as starting pitcher Steven Wright, reliever Kyle Landis, outfielder Thomas Neal and first baseman Chun Chen will represent Akron on the EL Western Division All-Star Team July 11th in Reading, Pa.
The knuckleball-wielding Wright, 27, is 6-5 with a 1.98 ERA in 14 starts. His 1.98 ERA ranks second in the league and his 75 strikeouts ranks fifth. Wright tossed the Aeros first complete-game shutout May 6th against Bowie since 2009.
In 24 appearances, Landis, 26, Landis is 4-3 with a 3.52 ERA. In 38 1/3 innings, he has issued just nine walks while striking out 36. He also owns two saves this season and has stranded five of six inherited runners.
Neal, 24, is batting .297 with five home runs and 27 RBI. As the weather has heated up, so has Neal as his five home runs have come this month. Neal also owns 20 extra-base hits among his 62 total hits.
Chen, 23, is making his second consecutive EL All-Star appearance, having made his debut in the game last year. In addition to making a swift transition to first base after being a fulltime catcher, Chen leads the Aeros with a .320 batting average that also ranks 5th in the EL.Chen, who leads the league with 24 doubles, enjoyed a 12-game hitting streak from June 5th-16th during which he batted .390.
