Aeros RHP and closer Cory Burns was named to the Eastern League postseason All-Star Team Thursday.
Burns’ postseason selection is the second of his career, having also been selected to the Carolina League postseason All-Star Team last season while pitching for High Class-A Kinston.
Burns leads the Eastern League in saves with 32 and owns a 2.25 ERA. He leads the league in games finished (48) and is second in appearances (49). He also ranks first among all E.L. relievers in fewest base runners allowed per nine innings, second in walks per nine innings and third in strikeouts per nine innings.
On Aug. 3, Burns became the Aeros all-time single season saves leader surpassing Randy Newsom (2008) with his 30th save in a win over the Trenton Thunder.
The 6-foot-, 200-pounder has also participated in two mid-season All-Star games, including this season's Eastern League All-Star Game July 13th.
The Glendale, Ariz., native was rated by Baseball America as the “Best Reliever” in the E.L. this season. He was selected by the Indians in the eighth round of the 2009 draft out of the University of Arizona.
