Rivero has hand in win over former team

Former Aeros SS Carlos Rivero hit a solo home run in the sixth inning Tuesday that broke a 2-2 tie and helped host Reading to a 4-2 victory in the first game of a three-game series at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Aeros starter and LHP T.J. McFarland gave up Rivero's home run and took the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks in six innings.

McBride earns Indians weekly honor

The Indians selected Aeros 1B/OF Matt McBride as Tribe's Minor League Player of the Week for the week of May 22-28. Over that span, the 26-year old batted .370 (10-for-27) with four runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI in seven games with Akron. He also collected four multi-hit games and had an OPS of 1.100 (.433 on-base percentage, .667 slugging percentage).

So far this season, McBride is batting .269 with 28 runs scored, 11 doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 26 RBI in 52 games. He is currently tied for seventh in the Eastern League in home runs, 14th in slugging percentage, tied for 14th in RBI and 20th in OPS.

Aeros top Richmond 3-2

Sunday's Aeros score was tied 2-2 entering the late innings, but the afternoon's action was far from the typical pitchers dual the score might have indicated.

The Aeros scored the game winner in the eighth inning against Richmond reliever Daniel Otero when Matt McBride lead off the inning with a single to left field and scored  on Chun Chen's double for the 3-2 victory in front of a franchise high 9,328 fans at Canal Park.

Webb scores from second on infield single to give Aeros win

Akron Aeros right fielder Donnie Webb scored from second base on an infield single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Aeros a 2-1 victory over Richmond Sunday at Canal Park.

Webb never slowed down as he rounded third base despite Richmond shortstop Nick Noonan making a diving stop on near second base on catcher Chun Chen’s groundball up the middle.

Richmond tops Aeros 3-2 in extra innings

No one can ever say Tim Fedroff isn't a team player.

With two Aeros on base and no outs in the third inning, the Aeros LF gave him self up with a sacrifice bunt that advanced the runners and helped C Juan Apodaca eventually score Akron's  first run to cut a 2-0 deficit in half.

Aeros cruise past Richmond 9-2 Friday

The Aeros got to Richmond starter and LHP Clayton Tanner early and often Friday at Canal Park, pretty much having the game in hand by the end of the fourth inning.

Too bad the game wasn't of the seven-inning variety that Akron has played so much already this season. No doubt Aeros players would have loved a couple extra hours to get a head start on celebrating the Memorial Day Weekend.

Friday's Aeros pregame notes

The Aeros welcome the Richmond Flying Squirrels to Canal Park Friday for a four-game holiday weekend series.

* Before the game, it was announced that former Aeros ace Adam Miller had rejoined the team for the first time since 2006. After being named the Indians minor league Pitcher of the Year. He has  since undergone four surgeries on his right middle finger and missed the last two seasons while sidelined.

Aeros lose two in doubleheader to Harrisburg Thursday morning

The Aeros dropped the final two games of their four-game series to visiting Harrisburg (23-20) Thursday morning at Canal Park Thursday.

The Aeros (22-26) lost Wednesday's suspended game 7-6, then dropped the regulary-scheduled seven-inning contest 5-1. They have now lost three consecutive games, tying them for their longest streak of the season. As part of an early 10:35 a.m. Education Day start, a season high 6,832 fans were in atteandance.

Host Aeros lose 11-6 to Harrisburg Tuesday

Recovering from a nine-run deficit would have marked the largest come-from-behind rally for the Aeros this season.

But the host Aeros (22-24)could only get as close as recovering six runs in an eventual 11-6 loss to visiting Harrisburg (21-20) Tuesday at Canal Park.

Aeros outlast rain and Senators in 12-8 win

The Aeros players gathered in the home dugout, waiting out a hour and 36-minute rain delay by watching the end of the parent-club Indians come-from-behind victory over visiting  Boston on the large scoreboard in right center field at Canal Park.

Aeros Fedroff named EL Player of the Week

Aeros outfielder Tim Fedroff  was selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of May 16th-May 22nd.

in seven games last week, the 24-year old batted .583 (14-for-24) with two doubles, a triple, eight runs scored, five RBI, two stolen bases, four walks and a .750 slugging percentage.

Aeros split Thursday's doubleheader with Curve

The Aeros won Game One 6-1 before dropping the second seven-inning game 2-1 in a doubleheader split with visiting Altoona Thursday at Canal Park. The two teams remained tied atop the Eastern League Western Division, a half game ahead of Bowie.   

 The Aeros (20-20) won the first game behind a solid outing from RHP Joe Gardner, who earned the win. Gardner limited the Curve to a run on four hits, while walking just one batter and striking out five in six innings.

Aeros pound Curve 16-6

On a sogy night when it seemed a game wouldn't even be able to be played, the Aeros waited out a 36-minute rain delay and then tip-toed around puddles on the field to post their highest run total of the season in a 16-6 victory over visiting Altoona.

The three-hour and 19-minute game began with Aeros starting pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz spotting the Curve a four-run first inning as he struggled to find the strike zone. In his brief 4 2/3 outing , the left-hander allowed five runs but also struck out eight in the no decision.

Tuesday's Aeros game against visiting Altoona was postponed due to inclement weather.

It is scheduled to be made up Thursday as part of a doubleheader beginning at 10:35 a.m., with each game being seven innings.

Aeros outfielder Drennen suspended 50 games

Aeros outfielder John Drennen has been suspended for 50 days for testing positive for the banned substance Clomiphene, a female fertility drug taken to start ovulation.

Drennen was batting .256 in 36 games with nine doubles, two triples, three home runs and 15 RBI with the Aeros.

Saturday's Aeros Pregame Notes

The Aeros take on the Trenton Thunder this afternoon at Canal Park in the second game of a three-game series. Trenton took Game One, 7-4 by breaking open a 4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the ninth inning off Aeros closer Cory Burns.

* Matt McBride's fourth-inning home run was his third homer in as many games, giving him four longballs on the season. The last Aeros player to hit a home run in four consecutive games was current Akron outfielder John Drennen (Sept. 5th through 9th in 2009). McBride is batting .245 in 28 games so far this season with four doubles, nine RBI and 13 runs scored.

Aeros fans serenaded as they wait out rain delay at Canal Park

The Aeros and Trenton Thunder hadn't even begun play Friday when a rain and lightning storm washed over Canal Park Friday.

While fans awaited play to begin while huddled together under the stadium's over hang, they were serenaded with live music by musician Bill Wharton, A.K.A. "The Sauce Boss".

Aeros Pregame Notes for Friday

The Aeros returned home Friday to Canal Park from a seven-game road trip. They will host the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees) during the three-game home stand before hitting the road again Monday for another seven-game road trip.

WELCOME ABOARD - Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco is schduled to make a rehab start with the Aeros Friday. With the Tribe he is 1-1 with a 4.97 ERA in five starts.
