Pitching: Left-hander Oliver Perez
Oliver Perez is a former major leaguer who will be making his second start with the Senators. He was signed by the Washington Nationals on March 23rd. In Perez’ lone appearance this season he is 1-0 with three strikeouts, two walks and one run in five innings. He allowed one hit.
Initially, Perez was an undrafted free agent signing by the San Diego Padres in 1999. He has also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and, most recently, the New York Mets, where he was a main stay in the starting rotation from 2007 until last season. Perez went 0-5 last year with the Mets with a 6.80 ERA in seven starts and 17 games.
The Mets tried to reinvent the left-hander as a bullpen specialist too, to no avail. Perez was released by the Mets on March 21, they still owe him $12 million for this season.
For his career, Perez carries a 58-69 major league record in nine season with 1,1126 strikeouts in 1,111 2/3 innings. He has walked 628 and carries a 4.63 ERA
