Gardner, McBride propel Aeros to 3-0 win

Key situations: Aeros starting pitcher Joe Gardner worked eight scoreless innings and Matt McBride hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to guide Akron to a 3-0 win over visiting New Hampshire on Wednesday at Canal Park before a crowd of 3,176.

Quick hits: Gardner, a right-hander, outdueled Fisher Cats righty Henderson Alvarez. Gardner (4-5. 3.81 ERA) struck out three, allowed six hits, walked one and hit one. Righty closer Cory Burns pitched the ninth inning for his 17th save. . . . Karexon Sanchez singled and scored in the third. McBride homered in the fourth. Tim Fedroff singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chun Chen in the eighth. . . . Beau Mills' 11-game hitting streak was snapped. . . . The Aeros hosted SportsTime Ohio's ``All Bets Are Off´´ with Bruce Drennan television show life before the game from 3-6 p.m. Drennan was perched down the first base line near the fair pole in right field and among the 14 interviews he did were with McBride, Fedroff, Burns, Aeros manager Chris Tremie and pitcher Austin Adams.

Next game: The Aeros and Fisher Cats will meet at 7:05 tonight at Canal Park with pitchers to be announced.
