Harrisburg routs Aeros, 8-1

By Stephanie Storm Published: May 11, 2012

What began with the idea of a promising pitcher’s dual quickly morphed into a lop-sided loss for the Aeros Friday night at Canal Park, as Harrisburg cruised to an 8-1 victory in Game Two of the four-game series at Canal Park.

A low-scoring game seemed evitable with Aeros RHP and Steven Wright (3-1, 1.13 ERA) taking on Harrisburg LHP Danny Rosenbaum (4-0, 0.81 ERA). But Wright’s knuckleball wasn’t as effective early on as usual and then he was smacked in the left foot with a line drive in the fourth inning and before the Aeros knew it, the rout was on.

In 3 1/3 innings, Wright gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks before leaving the game. His replacement, reliever Jose De La Torre, didn’t fare much better, giving up three runs on five hits in just 1 2/3 innings.

By the time reliever Rob Bryson got things under control and quieted the Senators’ bats, the Aeros were already facing an eight-run deficit.

Meanwhile, Rosebaum, the Washington Nationals 23rd best prospect according to Baseball America, held the Aeros scoreless through six innings while scattering four hits, walking just one and striking out six.

Rosenbaum was in control in all but one inning – his final when C Roberto Perez led off with a double to the right field corner and then two outs, LF Jared Goedert singled to left and 1B Chun Chen walked to load the bases. But Rosenbaum, a 22-round draft pick in the 2009 draft, tip-toed out of the jam when he coaxed DH Adam Abraham into a force out to end the frame.

The Aeros lone run came in the ninth inning when 2B Ryan Rohlinger’s sacrifice fly scored Chen.

The Aeros and Senators continue this four-game series with the third game Saturday at 6:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Akron RHP Brett Brach (first outing with Aeros) is slated to face Harrisburg RHP Rob Gilliam (1-3, 4.28 ERA) on the mound.
