Aeros lose third consecutive game to Erie in 5-1 defeat

By Stephanie Published: July 31, 2011

With all available hands on deck Sunday, the Aeros lineup resembled one of those B Games often found on the back fields at Goodyear, Ariz., midway through a long Indians spring training.

A majority of the young players are up-and-comers in the Tribe’s minor league system, but haven’t become household names yet. They’re just guys wearing their teams’ jerseys looking to make a name for themselves.

Thunder 9, Aeros 8

Key situation: The Aeros imploded in the top of the sixth. The pitching staff walked three batters in the inning and allowed six hits. And an error allowed tow more runs to score. In all, the Thunder sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the inning.

Quick hits: Brutal game that lasted about three and a half hours. Lost of walks, errors and bad baseball... Aeros starter Drew Pomeranz seemed to struggle a bit with getting ahead of hitters, a problem that has plagued him in his three starts at Akron. He pitched 4 (one third) innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. He walked three and struck out six…Trenton tried to utilize its switch pitcher, Pat Venditte, in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Aeros made him pay from both sides. Venditte, who throws with both hands, gave up back-to-back RBI doubles to left-handed hitter Raul Padron and right-handed hitter Kyle Bellows, and a sacrifice fly to catcher Chun Chen, as part of a four-run fifth inning before giving the lead away in the next inning…Chen and Bellows each finished with two RBI.
