Langwell promoted, Berger returns and Aeros homestand continues

By Stephanie Storm Published: May 11, 2012

Double-A Akron RHP Matt Langwell was promoted to Triple-A Columbus Friday. The 26-year old had been a key member of the Aeros bullpen, owning a 0.63 ERA and three saves in 10 relief appearances.

In 14 2/3 innings, Langwell, the Indians 11th-round selection in the 2008 draft out of Rice University, struck out 18 batters. He also made 12 appearances with the Clippers last season, going 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA.

Meanwhile, LHP Eric Berger returned to Akron after making a spot start in Columbus Thursday. The 26-year old took the loss against Scranton-Wilkes Barre (Yankees) in the Clippers 2-1 defeat, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings. He also walked three and struck out six.

For the Aeros, Berger is 0-3 with a 4.37 ERA in five starts. He has struck out 22 and walked eight in 22 2/3 innings.

However, the 8th-round selection by the Indians in the 2008 draft out of the University of Arizona is likely headed to the bullpen with the recent return of RHP Paolo Espino from the disabled list.

The Aeros continue their current homestand tonight at Canal Park with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Harrisburg Senators. A fireworks show set to music from “Back to the Future” is slated to follow the game.
