Aeros rally cut short in 5-4 loss to visiting Bowie

The Aeros may have been trailing by two runs entering the ninth inning Sunday, but to this season’s squad, a game is never over the final out is in the books.

Such a relaxed and confident approach has helped the Aeros stage their share of rallies and come-from-behind wins en route to becoming the Eastern League’s top team with a 65-43 record.

Aeros sweep Baysox in doubleheader

The Aeros swept the visiting Bowie Baysox by scores of 3-2 and 6-1 Saturday evening at Canal Park.

The first game of the double header was a continuation of Friday’s suspended game, starting with the Aeros batting with one out and one on in the bottom of the first inning.

Neal's walk-off single caps 3-for-4 hit parade and Aeros victory

Before the Aeros afternoon game with visiting Harrisburg Wednesday, somebody scribbled these words on an Indians dry erase board hanging on the locker room door: Today’s weather - hot and humid with a chance of a hit parade.

It appeared somebody jokingly erased the word rain and added the hit parade part. But as it turned out, the sentiment wasn’t that far off the mark as the Aeros notched their sixth consecutive victory to wrap up a successful seven-game home stand.

It's not another no-hitter, but Aeros win fourth consecutive game

The Aeros followed up Sunday’s no-hitter with another win, this one just didn’t come as easy.

Instead of one pitcher cruising through nine innings in under two hours, Monday’s game featured five Aeros pitchers, who combined to allow a dozen hits over nearly three hours.

LHP Giovanni Sotot no-hits Curve in 2-1 Aeros win

LHP Giovanni Soto threw the first solo nine-inning no-hitter at Canal Park Sunday afternoon, blanking Altoona  2-1.

The 21-year old native of Puerto Rico became just the second Aeros pitcher to ever throw a solo no-hitter, followed by RHP Jeanmar Gomez's perfect game at Trenton May 21, 2009.

Akron faces the Pirates' No. 1 pick from last year's draft, right-hander Gerrit Cole while reliever Rafael Perez makes a rehab appearance. It's his first time on the mound since straining his lat muscle on April 25.

There are currently about four times as many people lining the Curve bullpen watching him warm-up than there are in the actual bleacher seats section.

Richmond outlasts Aeros 7-5, Akron finishes homestand 2-6.

The Aeros mounted a valiant comeback yet again but once again were turned back, losing 7-5 to visiting Richmond Tuesday night at Canal Park.

The loss dropped the slumping Aeros (49-35) to 2-6 on the home stand as they dropped three-of-four games to Erie and Richmond over that span.

Aeros cant rally twice in 9-5 loss to Richmond in 11 innings

After the Aeros rallied from behind Monday to tie the game at 5-5 in the eighth inning to force extra innings, the visiting Flying Squirrels batted around in the 11th inning to make the outcome a no doubter in a 9-5 victory.

The Aeros (49-34) attempted a second comeback in the bottom of the inning by loading the bases and had the tying run at the plate in LF Nick Weglarz, but he was thrown out at first to end the threat and the game.

Aeros' Neal named Eastern League Player of the Week

Aeros OF Thomas Neal was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 25th through July 1st.

The 6-foot-2, 20-pound slugger batted .500 with six doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored, three walks and a 1.036 slugging percentage in seven games last week.

Aeros shut out for just the second time this season in 6-0 loss to visiting Richmond

The Aeros struggled to get much going offensively against visiting Richmond, beginning with being shutout over the first six innings by starter Michael Kickham. The left-hander scattered five hits, walked two batters and struck out seven to pick up the win.

While Kickham cruised, Aeros starter and LHP Giovanni Soto struggled with his command from the get go and took the loss.
