Aeros LHP T.J McFARLAND was named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the period May 7th through 13th.
McFarland, 22, went 2-0 with a 2.08ERA in two starts last week. In 13 innings, he limited the opposition to three runs, issued just two walks and struck out eight.
On May 5th, McFarland held the Bowie Baysox to three runs with two walks and four strikeouts in a six-inning win.
McFarland followed that performance with a seven-inning shutout against Harrisburg on May 10th in which he did not walk a batter and struck out four.
On the season, McFarland is 6-1 with a 2.18 ERA in seven starts. In 41 1/3 innings, he's struck out 24 batters and issued 11 walks. He currently leads the Eastern League in wins and is tied for second in complete games (one). He is also ninth in ERA (2.18), is averaging only 2.4 walks per nine innings and has yet to allow a home run.
McFarland was the Indians’ 4th-round selection in the 2007 draft out of Amos Alonso Stagg High School in Illinois. Last season with the Aeros he tied for second in the league in complete games (two) and tied for 4th in starts (26).
In 2010, McFarland finished third among all Indians farmhands in wins (11), tied for second in the Carolina League in wins (11), was fourth in ERA (3.13) and was named a Carolina League All-Star.
