Former Aeros SS Carlos Rivero hit a solo home run in the sixth inning Tuesday that broke a 2-2 tie and helped host Reading to a 4-2 victory in the first game of a three-game series at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Aeros starter and LHP T.J. McFarland gave up Rivero's home run and took the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks in six innings.
Reading RHP B.J. Rosenberg recorded the win for the Phillies. In six innings he limited the visiting Aeros to two runs on seven hits. RHP Justin De Fratus contributed two scoreless innings of relief to earn the save.
The R-Phils (27-23) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning on Matt Rizzotti's two-run home run.
The Aeros (25-28) answered in the sixth inning when with one out, OF Tim Fedroff singled and two batters later, 1B Beau Mills hit a two-run home run to tie the game at two runs a piece.
But Reading quickly answered in bottom of the inning, retaking the lead on Rivero's timely home run. The R-Phils added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The teams continue the series Wednesday at 2:05 p.m. Scheduled to pitch for the Aeros is LHP Matt Packer (2-5, 3.91 ERA). He will face Reading RHP Josh Zeid, who is 2-3 with a 6.27 ERA this season. First pitch is at 2:05 p.m.
