Sizemore and Smith to play for Aeros in opener

By Stephanie Published: April 6, 2011

Hi Aeros fans! Want another reason to come out to the Aeros season opener Thursday against the Binghamton Mets at 7:05 pm?

Come see  formner Aeros outfielder and current Indians All-Star Grady Sizemore and Tribe right-handed reliever Joe Smith,  both of whom are scheduled to participate in the Aeros opener.

Sizemore is making his way back from knee microfracture surgery, while Smith is rehabbing a strained abdominal muscle.

It appears as if Smith will need just a few outings before being activated in the major leagues while Sizemore needs more time as he will begin a 20-day rehabilitation assignment with the Aeros. Sizemore played in his first full season in the Indians organization at Akron in 2003, batting .304 as he helped lead the Aeros to their first Eastern League title, was named the EL's Rookie of the Year and finished as runner-up in the MVP voting.
