Grady Sizemore is in Akron.
Sizemore completed batting practice and shagged fly balls in the outfield today at Canal Park, and said he is excited to play.
Sizemore and is scheduled to start in center field at 7:05 tonight for the Aeros against the Binghamton Mets and bat leadoff. He is with the Aeros on a Major League Rehabilitation from the Cleveland Indians. He is rehabbing his left knee after having microfracture surgery last year.
Sizemore Pregame Quotes:
On his return to playing in a baseball game: “It is just a matter of going out there, and playing and getting more innings and getting more work in and getting that knee stronger.”
On the left knee: “There are no restrictions. I definitely still know that I had surgery. I feel different in the knee, but there are is nothing that restricts me from going out there and playing the way I always do.”
On playing in games: “I haven’t been all that aggressive as far as stealing [bases] yet. Right now we are just trying to build up my innings and get through the games before we start pushing it. There is nothing that is holding me back or in the back of my head.”
On returning to play in Akron: “It is good to be back. Obviously, I am comfortable here. I was here a few years ago and had a great time here. I am looking forward to player here for a couple of games and having fun and winning some games.”
On when he hopes to return to the Cleveland Indians: “I would like to be back in mid-to-late April. It just depends how I feel out here in these games.”
On the Indians 4-2 start to the season: “It is exciting to see them playing well. They got off to a rough start there, but they really bounced back and finished the homestand strong. I just want to get back there with those guys and contribute.”
