Blue Line Beginners: See small housekeeping matter at the bottom of this post. But first....
Yesterday our blog addressed beginning 8k and half-marathon runners. Today, let's get our beginning 1-mile runners started.
Many of our Blue Line Beginners are dedicated walkers who have expressed an interest in running the 1 mile course on June 24. What a great way to step things up.
I did a little research and found an article on Runner’s World written just for you. You can read the whole thing here: http://www.runnersworld.com/beginners/running-101
It all boils down to this nifty training schedule, which the magazine recommends you do three or four times a week.
This plan will end a week before our race, so you’ve got plenty of time to fit it in. If you are not already a dedicated walker, it’s recommended that you spend some time walking 20 to 30 minutes at a time before attempting Week 1.
The Runner’s World guide reminds you to always warm up for your workout with a couple minutes of walking and/or slow jogging, and cool down afterward with the same. That’s good advice for all of us at every level.
Now that housekeeping matter: Those who signed up for Blue Line Beginners should have received a group email from me yesterday, coming from our new email address firstname.lastname@example.org. If you didn't receive it, it may have been identified as spam. Gmail account users, in particular, might have to look for the email under the "promotions" folder in their inbox. Anyway, if you did not receive the group email, send me a note at email@example.com so I can send it to you individually, then make sure that address is accepted by your email provider in the future so you don't miss out!
