Restoring Honor vs. Reclaiming The Dream

By Da King Published: August 29, 2010

Talk show host Glenn Beck held a rally called Restoring Honor at the Lincoln Memorial, the site of the Rev. Martin Luther King's famous I Have A Dream speech in 1963. After Beck announced his plans, Rev. Al Sharpton and other accused Beck of "hijacking the dream," and planned an opposition rally of their own, called Reclaim The Dream.

Heading In The Right Direction ?

By Da King Published: August 25, 2010

Housing sales fell 27% last month, the biggest drop in 15 years. The official unemployment rate is 9.5% (the real unemployment rate is over 16%, and may be much higher), and weekly unemployment claims rose to their highest level since last november. This year's federal deficit is expected to be $1.3 trillion, the second trillion+ dollar deficit in a row. The country is over $13.2 trillion in debt, the largest dollar debt in American history by far, and it is growing by leaps and bounds. The CBO calculated that President Obama's budgets will add $9.5 trillion to the debt over a decade, over twice as much as any previous admiistration. Most of the states are broke. We are drowning future generations in staggering debt, and we still have $55 trillion in unfunded future entitlement liabilities to deal with, plus ObamaCare looming on the horizon to drastically increase Medicaid spending. The Democrats are looking to impose the largest tax increase in history at the end of the year, during a very weak economy, the weakest in nearly 30 years. Then Obama wants to impose Cap-And-Trade to drive up everyone's energy bills, to "skyrocket" the price of electricity, as Obama said himself. It's almost as if he intends to ruin us. The Democrats are throwing one overhand right after another into the face of our economic futures.

Everybody agrees Obama's stimulus plan didn't have it's intended effect. The White House claimed the stimulus would keep unemployment below 8%, and the Gaffemaster General, VP Joe Biden, said in this "recovery summer," we'd be adding 500,000 jobs per month by now. Clearly, the stimulus didn't come close to those numbers, but borrowing $800 billion to throw around did have some effect. Nobody could spend that much stimulus money with NO result, not even Obama and the Dumbocrats. The problem is, almost all of the stimulus spending only has a temporary effect. When the artificial borrowed stimulus bump runs out at the end of the year, we'll face our ACTUAL economic state (and we'll be another trillion deeper in debt to boot). With economists forecasting flat growth or even a double dip recession THIS year, what will happen when the stimulus funds run out ? Some even think we're in a depression, and point out some comparisons between the Great Depression and now. Not surprisingly, investors are growing wary of the stock market.

Media Smatters - 8/24/2010

By Da King Published: August 24, 2010

Universe Lacks Diversity: The contestant from Mexico won the Miss Universe pageant yesterday, marking the 59th time in a row that the winner of the Miss Universe beauty pageant has come from the planet Earth. In fact, the winner has always come from Earth. Not one winner has come from any other planet, solar system, or galaxy in the entire vast universe. Mars, Venus, Andromeda, and the United Federation Of Planets have filed discrimination charges. They will be represented by the ACLU. To my knowledge, no conservative group has called to congratulate Miss Mexico, proving that conservatives are anti-Hispanic, and yes, I wrote this solely as an excuse to show a gratuitous photo of pretty girls in bikinis.

Dems Say...Fear Bush In 2010

By Da King Published: August 22, 2010

Democrats appear to be staking their 2010 midterm election hopes on running against their favorite punching bag...George W. Bush. Funny, but I don't see his name on any ballots this year. To my knowledge, Bush has been keeping a pretty low profile, hanging out in Crawford, Texas. I can't really blame the Democrats for running against Bush. After all, it worked in 2006 and 2008, and it's a lot easier than the Democrats defending their own policies, which are unpopular with the American people.

Leaving Iraq

By Da King Published: August 19, 2010

In november 2008, the Bush administration negotiated a Status Of Forces Agreement with the Iraqi government calling for American combat forces to leave Iraqi cities by june 2009, and for all American forces to leave Iraq by december 2011. Within that framework, President Obama set an interim goal for all combat forces to leave Iraq by august 2010. Yesterday, Obama reached his goal. The last combat brigade left Iraq on thursday, crossing into Kuwait. Congratulations to all our brave soldiers who have sacrificed so much. Our politicians may fail us, but our soldiers never do. They always answer the call.

As Col. John Norris led the 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, into Kuwait, it was reported he said "Operation Iraqi Freedom ends on your watch" to his troops. As much as I support Col. Norris' sentiment, that is not strictly true. We still have 50,000 troops remaining in Iraq to train Iraqi soldiers and provide support as needed. We're also doubling the number of civilian contractors in Iraq, according to the New York Times. Americans are still in harm's way, though to a lesser degree. Here's Obama in an excerpt from his speech in front of the Disabled American Veterans a couple weeks ago:

Dems To Cut Food Stamps Again ?

By Da King Published: August 16, 2010

In order to pay for $26 billion in federal spending to avoid layoffs of state government workers and fund Medicaid, Democrats cut the food stamp program. As amazed as I was at this withdrawal of support from the poor to pay for the middle class (teachers, police officers, etc), I am even more amazed that the Democrats appear poised to cut the food stamp program AGAIN, this time to pay for Michelle Obama's $8 billion child nutrition program.

Cutting food stamps to pay for a child nutrition program ? Anyone see a paradox there ? I doubt even Orwell dreamt of anything so Orwellian. Here are the details, from The Hill:

Why Obama Is Failing

By Da King Published: August 13, 2010

I'm going to be a little lazy today. Instead of supplying my own reasons for why President Obama's approval ratings have steadily plunged since his inauguration, slipping from 69% to 45% (Dubya's approval rating was 67% at the same point in his presidency), I'm going to air a view from across the pond. Here's Nile Gardiner, writing for the, explaining why America is becoming increasingly disenchanted with Barack Obama. I can't find too much to argue with here, though I find the Michelle Obama as Marie Antoinette imagery in point #1 to be a bit petty considering all the larger criticisms of Obama there are to choose from. I also would have stated point #3 much differently:

Shazzam ! Responsibility Gone !

By Da King Published: August 11, 2010

Liberals, after 8 years of complaining about President Bush running up the federal debt (as did I), and after 20+ years of complaining about President Reagan running up a relatively minor amount of debt (Obama ran up nearly as much debt in his first year as Reagan did in two full terms), now wholly embrace Democrats running up the debt at a pace unmatched in American history. Obama makes Bush look like an amateur debt runner-upper by comparison, but I see no outcry from liberals over this. Liberals have completely switched course, completely switched arguments. Now, they demonize Republicans for insisting additional federal spending be paid for (as demanded by the Democrats own PAYGO legislation, which liberals trumpet. Go figure). Somebody will have to explain this to me, because I can't make any sense of it whatsoever.

Liberals babble on about tax cuts for the rich or something, but that doesn't make much sense either. If the Bush tax cuts for the rich were reversed, it would only add around $50 billion per year in federal revenue (the amount is arguable. Could be less. Could be more). Reversing the Bush tax cuts would barely make a dent in our yearly trillion+ dollar deficits. Reversing the Bush tax cuts wouldn't even offset the additional federal spending and borrowing announced in the last week, not to mention that nearly all economists agree raising taxes during a recession is a really bad idea. History agrees, though Obama and his Democratic Superfriends do not. I call them Suprefriends because they have superhuman powers that normal people do not possess. For example, they can turn borrowing $1.5 trillion per year into a GOOD thing. Bush could NEVER have gotten away with that, being a mere mortal and (ick) Republican. The Superfriends can also pass PAYGO and then completely ignore it without generating so much as a peep of protest from the mainstream media. The Superfriends can even praise themselves for passing PAYGO months AFTER completely ignoring it, and the peepless media still doesn't peep. Instead, the media continues peeping about whether there might be a racist among the millions of Tea Party members. They've been peeping for, let's see, about 17 months over that one, because, you know, President Obama is black (well, half-black. Close enough, I guess). Maybe the Tea Partiers should come out with a statement saying they are only protesting Obama's white half. Maybe that would please the race-based liberal media's sensibilities.
