More Obama SOTU Distortions

By Da King Published: January 29, 2010

Well, you could knock me over with a feather. The Associated Press actually fact-checked Obama's State Of The Union speech. Will wonders never cease. They better watch out, or Team Obama will start claiming that the AP is not a real news organization, like they did with Fox News.

The AP found many examples of Obama stretching the truth, in contrast to my friend the Reverend at the Blog Of Mass Destruction, who claimed, "Obama speaks the truth. He's not duplicitous."

Let's Pretend - Obama Is A Moderate

By Da King Published: January 27, 2010

The official proclamation from the media is that President Obama is a moderate now, after word came from the White House that Obama will propose a three-year federal spending freeze in tonight's State Of The Union address. The official proclamation claims that the President got the message from the Massachusetts senatorial election, and now he's taking bold steps to deal with our disastrous deficit/debt problem, the one thing certain to destroy the economic future of this country.

Let's scrutinize the official proclamation for accuracy.

It's All Bush's Fault ???

By Da King Published: January 25, 2010

Every time I hear President Obama or any other Democrat blame George W. Bush for the recession, it makes my head want to explode. It is so dishonest that words can barely describe it. Yes, Bush was the President when it happened, but Bush didn't put the policies in place that made it happen. For the last 16 months, I've asked every liberal who said 'it's Bush's fault' to tell me what Bush policy or policies caused the recession, and I'm still waiting for an answer. They got next to nothing (except maybe for Greenspan and Bernanke keeping interest rates too low, which is Fed policy, not White House policy), because there is next to nothing. I don't say this because I'm a Bush fan. I'm not one. I say this because I have a fondness for the truth.

To find out what did cause the recession, consider this New York Times article from September 30th, 1999, titled Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending. The author's name is Steven A. Holmes, and his words in 1999 were amazingly prophetic:

Boom Year For Lobbyists

By Da King Published: January 24, 2010

After listening to President Obama whine about the Supreme Court's ruling on the Citizens United v. FEC case, where the Supremes struck down an unconstituional McCain-Feingold prohibition on campaign ads, I wondered, exactly how big of a hypocrite is Obama ? Apparently, his hypocrisy knows no bounds. Remember, Obama is the one who broke his word on taking public campaign financing so he could raise $600 million to defeat John McCain, who did take public campaign financing. LOTS of that money came from special interests, running the gamut from Wall Street to the unions. Obama also spouted quite a lot of anti-lobbyist rhetoric on the campaign trail in 2008, and then turned around and had several lobbyists on his White House team (another broken Obama campaign promise), including John Podesta, who headed Obama's transition team.

As it turns out, 2009 was a very, very good year for lobbyists, and guess which lobbying firm increased it's revenue the most ? If you said, 'John Podesta's lobbying group,' you win the grand prize. The revenue of the Podesta Group jumped 60 percent in 2009. Some grand coincidence, eh ?

Supreme Court Free Speech Ruling

By Da King Published: January 22, 2010

But first...last night at the Q...Cavaliers 93, Lakers 87. Yes !!! That's two wins in a row over the defending NBA champion Lakers, and the Cavs did it without all-star point guard Mo Williams, who is out with a shoulder injury. Lebron rules, throwing down 37 points along with 9 assists. Get well, Mojo. Go Cavs ! (Box score)

The Supreme Court made a ruling yesterday on a major free speech case, Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission (FEC). Here are the facts of the case, as described by The CATO Institute:

The Massachusetts Message

By Da King Published: January 20, 2010

Republican Scott Brown's improbable Senate victory in the bluest of all blue states, Massachusetts, has sent the Democrats reeling. Their reflective navel-gazing has begun. I look at this as a wakeup call for the Democratic party. Will they now "get" it, or will they remain in denial ? Will they continue pushing policies the American people do not want ? If so, they will continue to isolate themselves, and they will continue to lose, as they have in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Virginia this year.

It's too soon to make that call, but early indications are not promising. This morning I heard Robert Gibbs, Obama's press secretary, say the Dems just need to "retool their message." Wrong. That's not it. The people understand the message of the Democrats all too well. That's not the problem. The problem is, the people don't agree with the Democrats message. I heard MS-NBC's Norah O'Donnell blame the loss on Coakley not taking the campaign seriously enough. That's waaay wrong. Nobody takes a Senate seat lightly, and Martha Coakley certainly didn't. O'Donnell then said Coakley lost due to anti-incumbent sentiment. That's a pretty bizarre statement, considering Coakley wasn't the incumbent.

It's Teddy Kennedy's Seat, Dammit !

By Da King Published: January 18, 2010

There is an interesting Senate election taking place in Massachusetts, one that could have major implications on whether or not the massively unpopular ObamaCare health reform legislation is unilaterally rammed through by the Democrats in Congress. The special election is tomorrow, when either the Democrat, Martha Coakley, or the infidel, er, I mean, the Republican, Scott Brown, will take over the seat vacated by Ted Kennedy's death. Normally, a Republican would have as much chance of winning that Senate seat as a black man would have of becoming a Grand Wizard in the Ku Klux Klan, but something is up in Massachusetts, a state that is bluer than blue (and sadder than sad, as Crystal Gayle would sing). Even though only 12% of Massachusetts voters are Republicans, while 37% are Democrats, the Republican Scott Brown has a narrow lead in the polling. The election could go either way.

How could this be happening, in Taxachusetts of all places ? That's a poser, alright. There is no doubt that Coakley is the better choice. Here she is being interviewed by a reporter for the Weekly Standard:

Jive, Cronies, and Demagogues

By Da King Published: January 15, 2010

Democrats have been telling us that Harry Reid's comments about President Barack Obama were NOT racist. Reid said Obama could become President because he was "light skinned" and had "no Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one." Dems also tell us that Bill Clinton's remarks about Barack Obama were NOT racist. Clinton told Ted Kennedy that "a few years ago, this guy [Obama] would have been getting us coffee." Dems also tell us that VP Joe Biden's comments about Obama were NOT racist. Biden said Obama was "clean" and "articulate." In trying to make sense of these new standards for non-racism the Democrats have created, it suddenly hit me.....I am light skinned with no Negro dialect unless I want to have one (aka, white). I'm also clean, articulate enough, and I know how to make coffee.................OMG ! I'm qualified to be President Of The United States ! Plus, I have a few qualities our current Prez does not have. I have worked extensively in the private sector and have run a successful business. Holy cats ! Maybe I'm OVER-qualified.
For anyone who did not see John Stossel's program about crony capitalism on the Fox Business Network last night, you really missed something. The program will air again on friday. Don't miss it, even though the depravity of our federal government, exposed by Stossel, might make you ill. You will see how big government works hand-in-hand with big business to distort the free market, discourage innovation, beat down the little guy, and rape the taxpayers in the process. You will see how the government picks winners and losers in business. Some of the winners are - big tobacco, big pharma, big health insurance, one window company over all the others, big toy companies. See how big business writes the government regulations that benefit themselves. It is absolutely perverse, and as always, the ONLY solution is to limit government power over our lives.
Related to Stossel's story about crony capitalism, some people might want to rethink labeling President Obama as a socialist, or at least amend it. In light of how Obama and company are either taking over or micromanaging business and the market, consider the following definition (which doesn't apply only to Obama and the Democrats, not by a long shot. That party called the Republicans does it too).

Fascism - a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology and a corporatist economic ideology.

Help Haiti Now

By Da King Published: January 14, 2010

After writing a post called Depraved Indifference, which was in essence about helping those who cannot help themselves, I would be remiss not to urge everyone to give whatever they can to assist Haiti in it's time of need. There are reportedly hundreds of thousand killed by the earthquake there, and what infrastructure Haiti had was mostly destroyed. Here is a link to where you can send donations to Haiti. They badly need our help.

Even before the earthquake, Haiti was the poorest country in the western hemisphere. The GDP of Haiti comes out to $2 per Haitian per day. That level of poverty is something we can barely comprehend here. I've also heard there are an estimated 45,000 Americans in Haiti.

Depraved Indifference

By Da King Published: January 12, 2010

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing - Edmund Burke

In march 1964, a twenty-eight-year-old woman named Kitty Genovese drove home from work and parked her car in Queens, a borough in New York City. She lived in a nice neighborhood there, Kew Gardens. Genovese exited her car and a man came after her, stabbing her in the back. The assault took place on the sidewalk in front of a row of shops and across the street from a ten-story apartment building called the Mowbray. The assailant, twenty-nine-year-old Winston Moseley, retreated to his car and backed it down the street out of view. Moseley returned to the scene of his crime, sexually assaulting Genovese and stabbing her again. The stabbing and and sexual assault went on for 35 minutes, then Moseley went back to his car and drove home. Kitty Genovese was left dead.

The Double Standard

By Da King Published: January 11, 2010

As someone who holds mostly fiscal conservative/Libertarian political belefs, and as someone who has been falsely slandered as a racist by liberals more times than I can count because of it, I am keenly aware of the double standard that exists regarding the topic of race. The Harry Reid incident is another example of it.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) made a stupid racial remark about Barack Obama. In 2008, Reid said Obama could be elected president because he is “light skinned” and had “no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.” Not at all good (and who even uses the term 'Negro' these days ?). Reid's remarks just came to light in a new book called Game Change. If I was Obama and Reid said those words to my face, I'd want to punch him in the mouth. It's like telling a Jew that he could become President because he doesn't look or act too Jew-y.

A Dog's Life

By Da King Published: January 4, 2010

I wish I could take credit for this, but it's an e-mail making the rounds on the web. For your consideration...
My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day.. He has his food prepared for him. He can eat whenever he wants, 24/7/52. His meals are provided at no cost to him.. He visits the doctor once a year for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise. For this he pays nothing, and nothing is required of him. He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep. If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep. He receives these accommodations absolutely free. He is living like a king, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever. All of his costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day. I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head...Holy crap, my dog is a LIBERAL !!!

No Smoking Gun ?

For the second time since the underwear bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, tried to bring down Northwest flight 253 with liquid explosives, I find myself shaking my head in disbelief at comments from an Obama administration official. The first time was when Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stupidly claimed "the system worked" in the aftermath of the bombing attempt, leaving me to wonder if Napolitano was imbibing LSD along with her morning coffee. Now comes this from John Brennan, President Obama's assistant for counterterrorism and homeland security, who is reviewing the intelligence lapses that allowed the underwear bomber to get on a plane bound for Detroit with explosives and a valid U.S. visa:

Top Ten Government Disasters Of 2001-2009

By Da King Published: January 1, 2010

Happy new year, everyone !

As we move forward into a new decade, it is helpful to look back at the governmental disasters of the last decade in order to correct mistakes going forward. The Libertarian Party has released a list of the top ten government disasters of both 2009 and the previous decade. I don't agree with everything the Libertarians are saying, and my top ten list of mistakes would be a little different, but I agree with the vast majority.
