When the Supreme Court rightly struck down an unconstitutional provision of McCain-Feingold that banned corporations, unions, and other groups of people from running political campaign ads 90 days prior to elections, liberal Democrats were outraged. They were certain that rich and powerful corporations would drown out other political voices on television and radio. Naturally, that has not happened. We've all seen plenty of political ads from all across the spectrum this election cycle, as always. Of course, the left's Chicken Little routine regarding campaign ads wasn't really about corporate-funded campaign ads at all. It was really about liberal Democrats knowledge that their anti-business stances on so many political issues would lead to the business sector supporting Republicans, which is exactly what is happening. The only Democrats garnering much support from business are of the Blue Dog variety, meaning they are conservative to moderate, not liberal. The liberal outrage over the McCain-Feingold provision being struck down was about censorship of dissenting voices, nothing more.
Unlike normal people, liberals don't seem to understand the connection between being anti-business and being anti-job, even though they are pretty much the same thing. Normal people realize businesses create jobs, and punishing the business sector will reduce job creation, none too wise when unemployment is stuck near 10%. Liberals think the government creates jobs, or something. Lord knows, I can't figure out what they are thinking.
Because the business sector is not supporting enough business-bashing liberal Democrats (shocker!), the liberal class warriors from the White House on down have decided to attack the Chamber Of Commerce and others with wholly unsubstantiated allegations that they are receiving, gasp,...foreign money to influence our elections. This alleged foreign money is "stealing our democracy," according to liberal groups like the Center For American Progress and MoveOn.org, both of whom have received millions of dollars from the international billionaire speculator George Soros. I guess THAT foreign money doesn't bother those liberal groups so much.
The Chamber Of Commerce has flatly denied using any foreign money for campaign ads, and only a miniscule amount of all Chamber Of Commerce funds come from foreign sources in the first place, hardly enough to "steal our democracy," even if the bogus Democrat charge was true. Listen to how White House McCarthyite David Axelrod responds to this question from Bob Schieffer of CBS:
Schieffer, Oct. 10: But this part about foreign money, that appears to be peanuts, Mister Axelrod, I mean, do you have any evidence that it’s anything other than peanuts?
Axelrod: Well, do you have any evidence that it’s not, Bob?
There you go. The White House doesn't NEED any evidence. The Chamber Of Commerce is guilty until proven innocent. It's the White House's variation on the old 'have you stopped beating your wife yet ?' routine.
Since the White House has setup this new standard of no-proof equaling proof, I have to ask...Is there any evidence that Barack Obama is not secretly working for Saudi Arabia, Iran, China, Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea, against the interests of the United States ??? No ??? Well, make him PROVE it.
Here's President Obama pushing the unfounded foreign money fear card himself:
Obama, Oct. 7: Just this week, we learned that one of the largest groups paying for these ads regularly takes in money from foreign sources. So the question for the people of Illinois is, are you going to let special interests from Wall Street and Washington and maybe places beyond our shores come to this state and tell us who our senator should be?
Another group targeted by the fearmongering White House for not disclosing all of it's donors is American Crossroads, a Republican group founded by Karl Rove. The results of the White House attacks ??? Donations to American Crossroads have skyrocketed:
Since the White House began attacking the conservative group last week for not disclosing their donors, the organization has raised $13.3 million — destroying their original fundraising goals and allowing them to target traditionally “low-risk” Democrat House seats.
“There is no question that the increased visibility that the White House has given us in the last week has increased our fundraising,” Crossroads spokesman Jonathan Collegio told The Daily Caller. “We have blown past our original $50 million fundraising goal and have increased our projection to $65 million by November 2.”
Nice move, Obama. I'm certain the GOP appreciates your assistance in helping them defeat more Democrats in november.
What makes this all the more ridiculous is that Obama left tens of billions of dollars of campaign donations undisclosed in the 2008 election cycle. That was considered a GOOD record on disclosure by Obama, but now we're supposed to be alarmed over much smaller amounts of could-be-maybe-it's-possible foreign donations to the Chamber Of Commerce ? I don't think so.
What makes this more ridiculous yet is the following information:
The [NY] Times reported, for example, that U.S. subsidiaries of corporations based overseas have set up more than 160 political action committees. The Federal Election Commission states that this is perfectly legal so long as U.S. residents make the decisions and provide all the funds. The Times also noted that groups such as the AFL-CIO and the Sierra Club also have international affiliations. The AFL-CIO has pledged to spend $53 million on the midterm elections, mainly supporting Democrats.
Yet we don't hear a single word of concern from the White House over possible foreign money flowing to Democrats campaigns and "stealing our democracy." Of course we don't, because that money helps Democrats.
This is a pathetic and desperate move by the Left, and it's not fooling anyone.
And it's all because the Democrats are going to lose the House, lose their big edge in the Senate, and lose a bunch of governorships. The reins of power will no longer be under liberal control, and it's driving them crazy. Wild-eyed liberal fantasies of decades of ultimate power have come crashing back to cold reality in two short years, as America remains against almost every policy Obama has instituted or wishes to institute. Losing control of Congress could be the best thing that ever happened to Obama's presidency, as it was with Bill Clinton's. We'll soon find out, and it will depend on how stubborn and ideologically-driven Obama remains once the legislative branch is no longer his rubber stamp.
