Last week, the Florida House of Representatives was debating an Infants Born Alive bill, which would address situations where a child was born and living following a failed abortion attempt. Planned Parenthood representatives were on hand to argue that the bill would make it harder for women to receive abortions. I have to admit, the Planned Parenthood reps do have a point, albeit one only a serial killer would attempt to make. Live babies wriggling around on abortion tables do tend to, um, "complicate" matters, don't they ?
Enter Planned Parenthood lobbyist Alisa LaPolt Snow, a kind and compassionate woman who testified that it's up to the mother and her doctor whether living, breathing babies should be murdered or not:
“So, um, it is just really hard for me to even ask you this question because I’m almost in disbelief,” said Rep. Jim Boyd. “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”
“We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician,” said Planned Parenthood lobbyist Snow.
The monstrosity of this woman's answer cannot be overstated. She just condoned infanticide, an astounding, utterly immoral position to take. The legislators present were similarly astounded...so they asked her the same question again to make sure she didn't misspeak the first time:
Rep. Jose Oliva followed up, asking the Planned Parenthood official, “You stated that a baby born alive on a table as a result of a botched abortion that that decision should be left to the doctor and the family. Is that what you’re saying?”
Again, Snow replied, “That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider.”
What concerns me most is, how did we get to the type of thinking being exhibited by this Planned Parenthood lobbyist ? How does one's mind become so twisted, so far removed from reality, that it justifies kiilling babies ? Recently, I wrote a post about the late-term abortionist, Dr. Kenneth Gosnell, who is on trial for several abortion-murders in Philadelphia. Gosnell would kill living babies by snipping their spinal cords. He'd even joke about it. He once said, "This baby is big enough to walk around with me or walk me to the bus stop". Horrific, but we discover Gosnell's mindset is alive and well in this Planned Parenthood lobbyist. She doesn't even seem to realize the horror of her own words. It's like her mind is on some kind of pro-choice autopilot. I picture her as a sort of unthinking, shambling zombie, repeating "it's the woman's body" over and over as she eats the brains of live babies. Her humanity has disappeared.
This is what ideological monsters look like. We've seen numerous examples of the phenomenon. People can be driven to extremes, and will commit atrocities beyond belief in their ideological political/religious zeal. It's how Hitler pulled off the Holocaust. It's how Stalin and Mao slaughtered 50-100 million of their own countrymen in the genocides of the 20th century. It's how Islamist countries justify oppressing and abusing women. It's how 9/11 happened.
And the only way to stop it is for good people to rise up and stop it. It not only CAN happen here, it HAS happened here. It IS happening here.
