Do We Have Immigration Laws Or Not ?

By Da King Published: April 28, 2010

Is it a federal crime to enter the United States illegally, or not ?

The answer is yes, it is illegal. For any who don't like that, your solution is to seek to change the law to an open borders policy, not to riot in the streets like a pack of wild animals. Learn from the Tea Party movement how to protest peacefully. During hundreds of Tea Party protests across the country, not one person has been arrested. No violence has occurred.

The Goldman Sachs Diversion

By Da King Published: April 26, 2010

On April 16, 2010, the Securities And Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a civil fraud suit against Goldman Sachs, alleging that the Wall Street investment bank sold mortgage-backed securities to investors that were secretly designed to fail. About a week later, A Senate subcommittee investigating the financial crisis released internal Goldman Sachs e-mails that seemed to support the SEC's allegations that Goldman Sachs was simultaneously selling the securities and betting against them. Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich), the chairman of that committee, said "Goldman made a lot of money by betting against the mortgage market."

I find myself in the unenviable position of offering a partial defense of Goldman Sachs at this point. Imagine for a moment that you work at Goldman Sachs, and have been selling mortgage-backed securities for years. Those securities were very profitable, ever since 1999 Clinton administration legislation (introduced by Republicans and with more Republican than Democratic support in Congress) allowed investment banks like Goldman Sachs into the mortgage market, which was previously illegal. From 1999 forward, a huge housing market bubble was created, and in 2007 that bubble began to burst. Housing prices began to fall dramatically, as did the value of those mortgage-backed securities. If you worked at Goldman Sachs in 2007, wasn't it the smart move to bet against the mortgage market by short-selling on the futures of those securities ? We all know now that it certainly was the smart move. The short-selling of those securities was not illegal. In fact, it's the essence of what Wall Street does. It buys and sells based upon market conditions, and market conditions CHANGE. As Lloyd Blankfein, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, wrote in one of the released e-mails, the firm "lost money" on the housing market, "then made more than we lost because of shorts." In another e-mail, Goldman's Chief Financial Officer wrote of making $50 million in one day via short-selling. In another e-mail, Goldman executives wrote about how one subprime lender was facing "wipeout," and another's demise was "imminent." Another executive said "sounds like we will make some serious money," by short-selling.

The Financial Regulation Reform Bill

By Da King Published: April 20, 2010

Reading through the Senate proposal for financial regulation reform, I was struck first by what the bill doesn't seem to do...

It doesn't end subprime mortgages or adjustable-rate mortgages.

The Democrat Willie Horton Ads

By Da King Published: April 19, 2010

Just when I thought the Democratic party couldn't possibly alienate me any more than they already have, they proved me wrong and alienated me further.

Near the fifteenth anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, former President Bill Clinton couldn't help himself. He just had to politicize it. Bubba joined into the Democrats non-stop version of the Willie Horton ad by warning that those scary Tea Partiers could inspire another Timothy McVeigh. In typical Dem fashion, Clinton also lashed out at other conservative speech, including the internet and talk radio.

Thank You For Cutting My Taxes ???

By Da King Published: April 17, 2010

Let me start by saying I agree with several things Obama has done recently - instituting an effort to secure loose nukes is great. Probably the single greatest threat to the USA and the world is a nuke falling into terrorist hands. Obama's move to start offshore oil drilling is a step forward. I supported his surge in Afghanistan (though I'm having second thoughts after Afghan President Hamid Karzai criticized American efforts. We can't possibly succeed without the support of the Afghan government). Obama took a small step forward on gay rights by requiring hospitals to allow patients to designate who can visit them during crucial moments. It no longer has to be a family member. The former policy discriminated against unmarried couples and gay couples who are not allowed to marry, and are therefore not recognized as family. Allowing unmarried and gay partners to visit their loved ones in the hospital is simply the right and humane thing to do. Kudos to the President for changing this longstanding and unfair policy.

But thursday, the President returned to what I termed "full-blown economic retard" mode a couple posts back. At a Democratic fundraiser in Miami, Obama said the following about the tax day Tea Party protests. From the Associated Press:

The Persistent Vege-Liberal State

By Da King Published: April 16, 2010

Liberals have an innate sense of entitlement and dependence. We all have it at some point in our lives, but most of us refer to that period as childhood. With liberals, the feeling persists well beyond the wonder years. This isn't surprising, seeing as how most adult liberals still live in their parent's basements, with their sole source of income coming from selling 1/4oz. bags of weed to their XBOX buddies. It's hard to move beyond dependence and into adult responsibility when mom still washes your underwear and prepares your meals for you.

Following high school graduation, which even a chimpanzee could achieve in today's public schools, the more enterprising young liberals get mommy and daddy to spring for a college dorm room, where the liberal exists on Captain Crunch, Little Caesar's Pizza, Cool Ranch Doritos, and Old Milwaukee for four years straight. Often it's six years straight. It's during this time period, when the young liberal mistakenly believes he's living "on his own," that the liberal realizes his parents, who worked their entire lives in order to pay for the his college education, are complete idiots. This realization generally manifests itself when the liberal takes an elective course called something like Marxism Misunderstood, taught by a bearded, sandal-wearing, tenured professor who also lives in his parent's basement.

Rearranging The Deck Chairs

By Da King Published: April 14, 2010

Imagine being the federal government, with trillions of dollars of revenue flowing in from American taxpayers every year. That's trillions with a T. In 2009, with tax revenue dropping during the recession, the federal government still took in 2.105 TRILLION dollars. That is $2,105,000,000,000. That's so much money that most of us can't even wrap our minds around it, but Washington D.C. gets that much money and more each and every year, without fail.

State and local governments take another $2.36 trillion from the taxpayers, making total government revenue at all levels about $4.485 trillion.

Why Do We Bother With A Constitution ?

By Da King Published: April 7, 2010

Left-wing political mythology holds that President Bush referred to the U.S. Constitution as nothing but "a goddamned piece of paper" in 2005. Bush allegedly said this in frustration over constitutional issues with the Patriot Act. Though it is very unlikely Bush ever spoke those words, many left-wingers still believe he did say them, even though the unreliable anti-Bush website that originally made the allegations, Capitol Hill Blue, has removed the story from their database.

While it's not the least bit surprising that lefty sources would invent an anti-Bush story, it occurs to me that Congress and the Executive branch almost always treat the Constitution as nothing but a g-d piece of paper. They treat it as a nuisance, or they ignore it altogether. This is a pretty shabby way to treat the supreme law of the land, the law both Congress and the President are sworn to uphold. Rather than uphold the Constitution, our federal government invents specious justifications to get around it.

Obama On Energy

By Da King Published: April 6, 2010

President Obama visited the Celgard plant in Charlotte, North Carolina the other day. Obama chose Celgard because they make batteries, and received $50 million in taxpayer funds via Obama's stimulus package. Celgard is using the money for expansion. Obama touted that achievement, though I always thought it was banks who were supposed to loan money to private companies for expansion, not the taxpayers. I also wonder how Celgard's competitors, the ones who didn't get any stimulus money, feel about it. This is the problem when the government interferes in the private sector, picking winners and losers in industry.

But I don't want to talk about what I disagree with in the President's remarks in North Carolina (I disagreed with A LOT). Instead, I want to talk about what I do agree with, and that comes in his overall energy strategy. Here's what Obama said about energy during a Q&A session, when someone asked him if offshore drilling would hamper investment in clean energy technologies:

The End Justifies The Means

By Da King Published: April 5, 2010

Watching the health care debate over the last year has made me almost physically ill. It confirmed all my worst suspicions about our federal government. The lies, the spin, the ignorance, the corruption, the backroom dealings, the phony cost estimates, the buying of votes, the use of government force, the subversion of the Democratic process, the government going against the will of the people, the ongoing taxpayer ripoff, the catering to special interests....it's disgusting.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) is the guy who singlehandedly destroyed the Democrats health care reform cost estimates at Obama's phony health care summit. Ryan also has a better health care plan than the one the Dems put forward, and it was ignored and rejected out-of-hand. Obama and the Dems preferred instead to promote the lie that Republicans didn't have a health care plan. That was one lie out of a sea of lies coming from the White House on the issue.

Hare-brained

An Idiot, A Shill, And The Road To Serfdom

By Da King Published: April 1, 2010

The Dumbest Thing I've Ever Heard - “Imagine if somebody were to really sit down with Osama Bin Laden and say, ‘listen man, what is it that you’re so angry at me about that you’re willing to have people strap bombs to themselves, or get inside of airplanes and fly them into buildings.’ That would be the miracle if we can get, sit down and talk to our enemies and find a way for them to hear us.” – Hollywood actor Matthew Modine

Alrighty then. Even though Modine is a big-time Hollywood movie star who has made such great films as...um, let's see...well, I can't think of one right now....he's an airhead. Here's an idea. Let's airdrop the airhead actor into Waziristan and have him serve as the ambassador of peace and love in dialogues with Osama Bin Laden. The later video that would surface of Modine's beheading would serve as a learning lesson to all like-minded naive liberal douchebags.
