Reality Check

By Da King Published: November 27, 2011

In reference to cutting government spending, President Obama likes to say we should use a "scalpel" instead of a "machete".

Obama couldn't be more wrong. We should be using a howitzer instead of a machete on government spending. Using a scalpel just ain't gonna git her done, because we're on an unsustainable fiscal path straight to economic hell.

Climategate Deja Vu All Over Again

By Da King Published: November 25, 2011

I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving.

On the Black Friday front, I saw half a dozen tents pitched in front of Best Buy Thanksgiving morning at 7:30am. People were camping out there. They weren't Occupiers. They were shoppers. I drove past Best Buy at 10:30pm, and there was a line going from the front door around the side of the building. The parking lot was packed, and I estimate at least 150 people were standing there waiting, 90 minutes before the store opened. Unreal.

Super Committee, Presidential Race, ObamaCare

By Da King Published: November 15, 2011

Not-So-Super Committee: The congressional Super Committee is tasked with cutting $1.2 trillion from future deficits over the next decade. They can accomplish this by cutting spending or raising taxes. They have 9 days left to complete their mission before automatic cuts to defense and entitlements go into effect. Thus far, the Super Committee has been unable to reach an agreement.

If anything illustrates the ineffectiveness of Congress (and a failure of leadership by the President), this it it. Think about it. Over the last ten years, the federal government has spent about $28 trillion. Over the next ten years, federal spending is projected to be $45-50 trillion. All the Super Committee has to do is cut $1.2 trillion out of the next $45-50 trillion in spending, a miniscule percentage. The Super Committee's job isn't even about cutting spending. They are only talking about cutting the rate of future spending INCREASE. I could cut that much out of the budget in a day, if it took me that long. In fact, I'll do it right now, in about ten seconds. We could cut $1.2 trillion out of the military budget over ten years. That would come to $120 billion per year, out of a defense budget that is already larger than the defense budgets of all the other countries in the world COMBINED, a defense budget that costs almost $1 trillion per year when all associated costs are tallied. There. We're done. That wasn't so hard, was it ?

ObamaCare Is No Help

By Da King Published: November 12, 2011

In my ongoing quest to educate liberals, I have often pointed out a basic economic point - increasing taxes on businesses causes job losses. Therefore, I keep advocating massive business tax cuts to stimulate job creation in this country and end the recession. For some reason, liberals keep arguing with me, though for the life of me I can't figure out what they are arguing with. Here is yet more proof of what I'm talking about:

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

By Da King Published: November 9, 2011

Ohio's votes have been cast.

The Good: Congratulations to Ohioans for voting overwhelmingly in favor of Issue 3, which will make ObamaCare's health care mandate unconstitutional in Ohio. This is a well-deserved slap in the face to President Obama and his merry band of totalitarians who passed the unconstitutional mandate against the will of the American people. The Democrats may be able to buy off some partisan judges to back their unconstitutionality, but they haven't fooled the voters. Kudos, Ohio.

Vote Yes On Issue 2

By Da King Published: November 6, 2011

On tuesday, Ohio voters will vote on Issue 2, which is a referendum on Senate Bill 5 (SB5). Voting 'Yes' on Issue 2 is a vote to keep the SB5 legislation in place. Voting 'No' on Issue 2 is a vote to repeal SB5.

I went to the union-backed website The unions want to repeal SB5. The first thing I saw on the union website was this - "Senate Bill 5 does not apply to politicians. While politicians were asking hardworking Ohioans to make "shared sacrifices", they were giving out huge pay raises and bonuses to their staff members. Stop the politicians from hurting middle class families - and helping themselves". I agree that Ohio's politicians should not be giving themselves raises when the state is so deeply in debt and unemployment is high, but that's not the real issue to consider here. The real issue is, how does Ohio close it's $8 billion budget deficit ? (other sources have claimed the budget deficit is $5 billion, but either way, something must be done). It boils down to two choices - 1) Raise taxes, or 2) Cut spending, and therein lies my problem with what WeAreOhio is selling. They talk about SB5 "hurting middle class families". Well, who do they think is going to bear the burden of the tax increases that will be necessary if SB5 is negated ? It will be ALL of us - middle class families, poor families, everyone. All Ohioans pay state/local taxes of some sort. WeAreOhio is asking us to pay more, so that public sector union employees won't have to pay 15% of the costs of their own pensions and health care benefits. This leads to my second problem with what WeAreOhio is selling. PUBLIC SECTOR UNION EMPLOYEES MAKE FAR MORE IN WAGES AND BENEFITS THAN THE REST OF US. As reported by the Associated Press:
