The mainstream media is finally admitting that Obama sold his Affordable Care Act to America under false pretenses, based upon lies like, "we will keep this promise to the American people: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health-care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health-care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what", and his promise that it would lower premiums by $2,500 per year.
As many of us have known all along, under Obamacare millions of people CAN'T keep their health care plan if they like it, and premiums haven't gone down, they've gone way up.
Congrats to the media for finally figuring out what news outlets like, dare I say, the FOX NEWS CHANNEL, knew long ago. Bias, anyone ?
In a just world, there would be consequences when a President repeatedly tells bold-faced lies to the American people, but you know that ain't gonna happen here. Obama is so accustomed to lying and getting away with it that it has become second-nature to him, as at least two Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists have pointed out recently (link) (link).
Now that Barry's Buddies, as I deem the overwhelming majority of the mainstream media, have at long last blown the whistle on his bs, I was waiting to see how The One would attempt to spin things in response (because being honest is out of the question for him). It wasn't a long wait. The President answered yesterday, and in typical fashion, he took no responsibility for his own lies. Instead, he blamed others:
"One of the things health reform was designed to do was to help not only the uninsured but also the under-insured," Obama said. "And there are a number of Americans, fewer than 5 percent of Americans, who've got cut-rate plans that don't offer real financial protection in the event of a serious illness or an accident.
"Remember, before the Affordable Care Act, these bad apple insurers had free rein every single year to limit the care that you received or used minor pre-existing conditions to jack up your premiums or bill you into bankruptcy."
Long gone is the rhetoric about "you will be able to keep your health-care plan, PERIOD". Long gone is the promised $2,500 reduction in premiums. Obama counts on you to forget all that now, and focus on those insurer "bad apples" who had "free rein" instead. Rather than owning up to his own lies, he demonizes someone else. This is quintessential Obama.
Obamacare has caused my existing insurance to be canceled, so I guess my insurer was one of those free rein bad apples the President is condemning. Strangely enough, I was completely satisfied with the level of coverage I had prior to Obamacare, and even more strangely, the insurance I'll get on the Obamacare exchanges is strikingly similar to what I have now. So, I guess I'm stuck comparing bad apples to...bad apples. Under both my current insurance and the bronze level Obamacare plan, I'll have high deductibles. The Obamacare plan has a slightly lower deductible, but the Obamacare premiums are significantly higher, meaning my annual out-of-pocket costs will actually be higher under Obamacare. Under the Obamacare bronze plan, I would spend $10,094 per year (deductible + annual premiums) before the insurance kicked in (in most cases). Under my current plan, it is slightly lower. My single biggest benefit from Obamacare is that there is no maximum insurance payout. It is unlimited. Under my current plan, the maximum was a million dollars. If President Obama considers that difference to mean I was underinsured, I guess he's entitled to his viewpoint, but I sure didn't feel that way. I'll ask all of you out there, does my paying $10K per year prior to my Obamacare insurance kicking in mean I will be underinsured via Obamacare, as per Obama's definition of "underinsured" ? You decide.
There ARE benefits to Obamacare. Prior to it, many high-risk people with pre-existing conditions were in effect shut out of the insurance market. Changing that was a good thing. I don't think it required all the rules and regulations that came with the Affordable Care Act to fix it, but in any case, is it too much to ask for the President Of The United States to tell the truth to the American people ??? Isn't that the least we should expect ? There is no defense for such behavior from our leader. He's supposed to set an example, but what I'm learning from him is that the truth is irrelevant. I'm learning from him that you should do or say ANYTHING to get your way, no matter if it's true or not. I'm learning that if you disagree with him, you're a bad person with bad intent. I reject these Obama lessons.
Mostly, what I'm learning from Barack Obama is to not listen to Barack Obama. He is a politican in the worst sense of the word, and I've had my fill of them.
