Political Quotes Of The Week

By David King Published: February 27, 2014

An Honest Liberal: “My view [is] that the president, has in fact, exceeded his authority in a way that is creating a destabilizing influence in a three branch system. I want to emphasize, of course, this problem didn’t begin with President Obama, I was critical of his predecessor President Bush as well, but the rate at which executive power has been concentrated in our system is accelerating. And frankly, I am very alarmed by the implications of that aggregation of power...What also alarms me, however, is that the two other branches appear not just simply passive, but inert in the face of this concentration of authority. The fact that I happen to think the president is right on many of these policies does not alter the fact that I believe the means he is doing [it] is wrong, and that this can be a dangerous change in our system, and our system is changing in a very fundamental way. And it’s changing without a whimper of regret or opposition.” - Constitutional Law Professor Jonathan Turley, testifying before Congress that President Obama is bringing us to "a constitutional tipping point".

Millions Of Americans Are Lying About Higher Health Care Costs For The Koch Brothers, Or Something:  "There are plenty of [Obamacare] horror stories being told. All of them are untrue...These two [Koch] brothers are trying to buy America" - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), who claimed the Republicans and Koch Brothers are lying about the Obamacare hardships people are experiencing.

It's Un-American To Oppose Democrats: "...it’s time that the American people spoke out against this terrible dishonesty of these two [Koch] brothers who are about as un-American as anyone I can imagine." - Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (link), who has has been known to tell a fib or twenty himself.

Speaking Of Lying: "What I said to you [about the Benghazi attack] that morning, and what I did every day since, was to share the best information that we had at the time. The information I provided, which I explained to you, was what we had at the moment...I commented that this was based on what we knew on that morning, was provided to me and my colleagues, and indeed, to Congress, by the intelligence community. And that's been well validated in many different ways since.” - former UN Ambassador and current National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, who told the American public on Meet The Press, five days after the Benghazi attack, that the 9/11/12 attack was due to a spontaneous demonstration and not a preplanned terrorist attack. The Obama administration knew those talking points they gave Rice were untrue. As has been observed by many, spontaneous demostrators don't bring rocket launchers to a protest.

Speaking of Lying, Part II: “Seven million [Obamacare enrollees by the end of March] was not the Administration, that was a CBO, Congressional Budget Office, prediction when the  law was first signed. I’m not quite sure where they even got their numbers. Their numbers [are] all over the board …” - HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who must believe we all have the attention spans of gnats. It was Sebelius herself who said 7 million enrollees by the end of March was the definition of Obamacare success the day before the Obamacare exchanges opened.

What First Amendment ?: "Fox News does nothing but tell lies and mistruths. They have unqualified political analysts. We need FCC to monitor and regulate them." - Constitutionally-challenged Progressive Democrat candidate, Mike Dickinson, who is challenging Eric Cantor (R-Va) for his congressional seat. Because Dickinson claimed the analysts on Fox News were unqualified, I have to point out that Dickinson's qualifications for political office consist of him being a restaurant management consultant, per his website.

Religious Liberty Does Not Include Discriminating Against Gay People: "Senate Bill 1062 does not address a specific and present concern related to religious liberty in Arizona. I have not heard of one example in Arizona where a business owner's religious liberty has been violated...[This bill had] the potential to create more problems than it purports to solve." - Arizona Governor Jan Brewer (R), who vetoed a misguided GOP-sponsored bill that would allow business owners to refuse service to gay people under the guise of freedom of religion.

Illegal Immigrants, I Am Your Racist Friend: "Immigration reform is important in our country. It’s one of the main agenda items of the Beaches Chamber of Commerce for obvious reasons. Because we have a lot of employers over on the beaches that rely upon workers and especially in this high-growth environment, where are you going to get people to work to clean our hotel rooms or do our landscaping ?" - Florida Democratic congressional candidate, Alex Sink (link)
