Repent, The End Is Near

If you've been watching the news, you've probably heard that America is going to crumble into the sea in a couple days if the sequester spending cuts go into effect. No less than the President Of The United States has been leading the death knell, as he describes the plagues that will beset our once strong republic should the 2.4% sequester spending cuts ($85 billion for FY2013) be implemented. For prespective, that $85 billion cut would come out of a bloated $3.8 trillion federal spending budget.

Po' big gubmint. Barely gots two nickels to rub together. Hand me dat blues harp.

"I am Uncle Sam, [Da-da-dah-da-dat].

And I am flat broke [Da-da-dah-da-dat],

I need another trillion [Da-da-dah-da-dat]

'Cuz I am da po' folk [Da-da-dah-da-dat]

Give me your money [Da-da-dah-da-dat]

All ya got [Da-da-dah-da-dat]

With this crummy ol' $3.8 trillion [Da-da-dah-da-dat]

I barely gets three hots and a cot."

Cry me a river.

Oddly enough, no death knell was heard from Obama last month when he signed some $150 billion in FY2013 tax increases into law in the fiscal cliff deal Not only did Obama not sound the death knell over thosee tax increases, he wants a lot more tax increases this month. The $840 billion or so he got in tax increases last month ain't enough...da-da-dah-da-dat.

For those of you keeping score out there, our President's views are:

1) Taking $85 billion out of the hands of the federal government = disaster

2) Taking $150 billion out of the hands of American taxpayers = a good start

Former Senator Jim Demint puts it in perspective:

"Most of the media is so sold out to Obama that they’re missing the obvious. The policies the President has in place, especially the tax increases that just got in, are going to hurt our economy, probably actually bring it down. The President is desperate to blame it on Republicans. He wants to blame it on a reduction in government spending. But the taxes are taking almost two-and-a-half times more out of the economy than this sequester will."

As proof that the President is mainly looking assign blame rather than solving the problem, Obama has been traveling to give speeches blaming Republicans (naturally), when what he should be doing is meeting with congressional leaders to forge a deal, which is what a leader would do. Unfortunately, we don't have a leader. We have Obama instead.

Then Obama has the nerve to deny his own actions, when, in the very speech in which he's blaming Republicans (naturally), he says, "I'm not interested in spin. I'm not interested in playing a blame game. At this point, all I'm interested in is solving problems." Sure, Mr. President. Whatever you say. That guy never ceases to amaze me. "Spin" should be his middle name. This is the only President I've seen who never stops campaigning. Never.

What we are really talking about with the sequester is cutting 2.4% from future federal government spending INCREASES. If you think the federal budget would really be cut via the sequester, think again. The federal budget is slated to go up, up, up, with or without the sequester. Federal spending is slated to reach $6 trillion in ten years. There are no reall cuts. All the sequester would do is slightly slow the rate of spending increases. That's all.
 
There is a better way to cut spending than the sequester, of course, but as I said, that would require leadership from both the President and Congress. Unfortunately, what we mostly have is politicians, so,  two days before the sequester is to take effect, the Democrat-led Senate has still not brought any sequester avoidance measure up for a vote, much less passed anything. The Democrats haven't even passed a budget in four years. On the other side of the aisle, the Republican-led House has passed two sequester avoidance measures that both died in the Senate. Yet somehow, Obama and his pet media have convinced the majority of Americans that the looming sequester is all the Republicans fault, even though it was Obama who insisted on the sequester in the first place. It's like we've gone through the looking glass into a world where reality has been turned on it's ear. No matter how much the Democrats abdicate responsibility, it ends up being the Republicans fault. As I'm writing this, I'm hearing Obama in the background on the television saying "Republicans won't compromise an inch on revenue, and that's what happening right now". Apparently, the $840 billion compromise on tax revenue increases the Republicans went along with last month never happened. Obama is sure pretending they didn't happen.
 
And people wonder why the country is so screwed up.
 
In related news, two of the worst examples of Democratic politicians, Reps. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Keith Ellison (D-MN), objected to the national debt clock being displayed in Congress. Ellison (who embarrassed himself aplenty on the Hannity Show last night), said, "“Clearly it is a political prop designed to message ideologically".
 
Huh. Who knew the actual federal debt numbers were ideological or political ??? I always thought they were the, you know, ACTUAL FEDERAL DEBT NUMBERS. They represent objective reality. If anyone needs to be reminded of what the debt numbers are, it's members of Congress, especially those on the Democrat side who think the debt is some kind of political or ideological trick, like the braindead Ellison does. Those types of people shouldn't be in Congress at all, they should be back in school getting an education.
