It seems one of our deep-thinking liberal talk radio hosts, Bill Press (former head of the California Democratic Party), doesn't think too highly of our national anthem. Hmmm. Just when I thought liberals couldn't possibly find anything else to whine about. Oh well. I guess their list of gripes about America is a bottomless pit (which, coincidentally, is also what they think about your hard-earned wages). Without further ado, I present the patriotic words of Mr. Press:
“I mean when you think about it, it’s ‘bombs bursting in air,’ ‘rocket’s red glare,’ it’s all kinds of -- you know a lot of national anthems are that way, too -- all kinds of military jargon, and the land -- there’s only one phrase ‘the land of the free,’ which is kind of nice, and ‘the home of the brave'? I don’t know....Are we the only ones who are brave on the planet? I mean 'all the brave people live here.' I mean it’s just stupid, I think. I’m embarrassed, I’m embarrassed every time I hear it.”
FIghting for our freedom...bravery,...the flag...bah, humbug. Who needs 'em? Not Bill Press. He's embarrassed by it, and those bombs bursting in air have him reaching for the Valium. Upsets his chi. Not to mention that the Star Spangled Banner is just too darned hard to sing. What about vocally-challenged Americans ? Where's the inclusion, the diversity ? It's a cryin' shame, I tell ya. I was pleasantly surprised Mr. Press thought "the land of the free" lyric was "kinda nice" though. The liberals I know find freedom to be quite bothersome to their agenda.
As someone who endeavors to help downtrodden liberals feel good about themselves, I decided to help Mr. Press out. I began looking for an appropriate national anthem that wouldn't hurt the feelings of sensitive liberal souls.. After a few minutes of searching, I/m happy to report I discovered just the right song !!! Ladies and gentlelibs, I give you my choice for the new liberal national anthem !!!:
Yes They Can !!!
Can that guy dance, or what ?
