A Few Things That Just Aren't True

By Da King Published: August 31, 2009

1. Japanese officials were executed for waterboarding prisoners during World War II.

Wrong. Japanese officials were executed primarily for mass murder and for waging war against other countries. Torture was among the charges, and among the numerous torture charges was Japanese water torture (aka, water cure), not waterboarding. The two are not the same thing. Water torture involved putting a hose down a prisoner's throat and pumping water into him until his insides burst or nearly burst, often resulting in death. In addition, the Japanese usually executed the prisoners following water torture and/or other forms of torture. Even without water torture, those Japanese officials would have been executed.

The Daily Democrat

By Da King Published: August 28, 2009

At a townhall meeting, former Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair Howard Dean was asked why tort reform is not included in ObamaCare. Then an amazing thing happened. Dean came very close to telling the truth. I was stunned. The truth ? Did Dean get DNC clearance for that ? I hope he doesn't get flagged as an Obama enemy. Here's Dean's answer:

Terrorist Interrogation Methods Worked. Was It Worth It ?

By Da King Published: August 25, 2009

With the release of the CIA Inspector General's (IG) 2004 report about Bush-era interrogation of terrorists, I assume you've all heard what the media wants you to hear - that one terrorist was threatened with a loaded gun and a power drill, that a pretend execution of a terrorist was carried out to get another terrorist to talk, that a threat was made against a terrorist's children, that a threat was made against a terrorist's mother. None of these threats were carried out, of course. They were just CIA interrogator mindgames being played to scare terrorists into talking. Attorney General Eric Holder has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate any CIA interrogation techniques that were not authorized, that went beyond what was outlined in the DOJ memos. President Obama has basically washed his hands of the matter, leaving the decision for prosecutions of CIA personnel up to Holder, who repeated his promise that there will be no prosecutions of CIA personnel "who acted in good faith and within the scope of the legal guidance given by" Bush administration lawyers.

Because you are sure to hear every lurid detail of every allegation being made against our interrogators, I'll skip spelling any more of that out for now. It is worth noting that the CIA IG report does admit that most of the allegations are uncorroborated. From the report:

Passing The Buck

By Da King Published: August 24, 2009

Do you believe our federal government is competent ? Do you think it's doing a good job of solving our problems ? Are we getting our money's worth ? Let's run through a checklist.

The government declared a war on poverty about 45 years ago. How'd that work out ? We may not have an exit strategy from Afghanistan yet, but you'd think we'd have one for the war on poverty after all these years. Nope.

Obama Supports Offshore Drilling

I mentioned in my last post that President Obama was supporting offshore oil drilling in America.

But only in SOUTH America, not here. Following are the details of that support, from the Wall Street Journal:

- One nice thing about Bill Clinton's presidency was that you could oppose his policies without being called a racist (mostly).

Killing The Land Of Opportunity

By Da King Published: August 18, 2009

In the last nine months, our federal government has bailed out big business left and right. Wall Street, banks, insurance companies, car companies. The federal government serves as a backstop for big business. Big business also happens to be the ones with the deep pockets, lobbyists, and campaign cash to help get the politicians re-elected. It's a cozy little quid pro quo of the nation's power brokers. The elite taking care of their own. The government has also bailed itself out by sending huge chunks of cash to state governments via Obama's stimulus bill. Those government jobs were "saved," even as us schlubs in the private sector lost our jobs. It seems ALL the big boys in our country are "too big to fail," and the enormous bailout price tag is put on the national credit card for some future taxpayer schlubs to worry about. That's a sweet deal for the big boys in and out of government. Their risk is alleviated. Their past sins, which led to these dire financial straits in the first place, are absolved. The taxpayers serve as the sin-eaters and the pain-eaters. Btw, the federal employees health care plan is top-notch. Thank you very much, schlubs.

But with all this bailing out of the big boys, something critical has been forgotten.

Thursday's Thoughts

Why isn't anyone in the media the least bit interested in Barack "Transparency" Obama's personal records ? This guy's life is a more well-hidden secret than Batman's. If you want to know where the Birther movement came from, consider all the records Obama has kept away from the public. Here's a partial list:

Long form birth certificate (original birth certificate)
Passport files
Harvard Law School records
University of Chicago records of scholarly articles
Columbia University records and senior thesis
Occidental College records
Punahou School records, fifth grade thru high school
Noelani Elementary School records
Files and schedules for years as Illinois state senator
Client list while practicing law with Davis, Miner, Barnhill and Gallard law firm

Happy Cost Of Government Day !

By Da King Published: August 12, 2009

Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) computed the day of the year when all the costs of government at all levels are paid for. ATR calls it Cost Of Government Day. This year, that day fell on August 12, 2009. It has taken from January 1st until now to pay for all the costs of federal, state, and local government, plus the regulatory burdens imposed by the government. This year's Cost Of Government Day was almost a full month later than it was in 2008. The biggest reason for the change was the recession, which sparked a massive Keynesian government spending spree (TARP, stimulus, etc). Another reason is the unchecked growth of unfunded entitlement liabilities (Medicare, Social Security, etc).

This year, the cost of government consumed 61.34% of national income. Working people toil 224 days of the year to pay for their government. You can view the Cost Of Government Day report for 2009 here. It makes for some very interesting and disturbing reading.

The Unemployment Myth

By Da King Published: August 12, 2009

In July, the unemployment rate dropped from 9.5% to 9.4%. The media choir immediately began singing an identical chorus - the recession is over, recovery has begun.

But there was a curious aspect to that "drop" in the unemployment rate. America LOST 247,000 jobs in July. How can the unemployment rate drop when hundreds of thousands more jobs were lost ? Answer - it can't drop. It's impossible. The alleged drop in the unemployment rate is a myth, a statistical sleight of hand. Unemployment went UP in July, not down. The only thing that went down in July was the number of people filing for unemployment compensation. That's how the Bureau Of Labor Statistics (BLS) measures unemployment. The "drop" in unemployment only reflects the number of unemployed people for whom unemployment benefits have expired. Those people are still unemployed. They just aren't in the official BLS unemployment statistics any longer. The BLS even notes this little tidbit in it's July report, which apparently escaped the media's attention:

You Do Not Exist

By Da King Published: August 7, 2009

Sorry I've been away from the blog this week, but AT&T inadvertently knocked out my phone lines. I couldn't get online until yesterday.

When the AT&T repairman was restoring my connection to the outside world, he noticed a copy of Ron Paul's book, Revolution, sitting on my coffee table, and we struck up a political conversation. He asked if I was a Republican. I said no, I was a fiscal conservative and a Libertarian, with a few exceptions (such as national security). The repairman asked me what the difference was between a Republican and a fiscal conservative. I replied that most Republicans were just kidding about fiscal conservatism, and I wasn't. Then the repairman asked me if I had heard Barbara Boxer (D-CA) insulting the American people who attended the townhall meetings on health care. That led to a 15 minute conversation that ended only because the repairman had another service call to make. It turns out the repairman was a 13-year military veteran. He was also one of the most intelligent people I've talked to lately. This "regular guy," much like myself, was very concerned with the health care reform that is winding it's way through the halls of Congress. Much like myself (and lots of townhall attendees), he thought the Democrats were being quite dishonest about their health care reform plans. He was also quite unhappy that many Democrats are treating Americans like we are a bunch of thuggish nitwits.

I Can't Stop This Feeling, Deep Inside Of Me

By Da King Published: August 2, 2009

January 11, 2032.

6:00am - The alarm in my microchip brain implant goes off, awakening me to the tune of the new Pan American national anthem, Yes We Can. The song is a reworking of an old hit from the 1960's, Hooked On A Feeling, by B. J. Thomas. As I open the lid of my GE Sleep Maximization Bed, the last of the bed's nighttime submlinal messaging echos through my mind - "Service, Acceptance, Duty..." I arise and make myself a cup of Government approved tea, an organic Ginseng-Noni blend. "This is putrid," I think to myself. The brain chip delivers a mild electrical shock for my IT (Inconvenient Thought).
