Steve Stricker and Chad Campbell share the early lead at 3-under par in Thursday's first round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club.
Stricker, seventh on the PGA Tour money list and fourth in the world rankings, birdied three of his first six holes, starting on the back nine. He came out hot with birdies at Nos. 10 and 12 and added another at the 15th. He stood 3-under through seven holes.
Campbell, playing in his eighth Bridgestone, vaulted into a share of the lead with a birdie at No. 2, his third of the day. Starting on the back nine, the member of the 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup team also birdied Nos. 11 and 17.
At 11:20 a.m., four others stood at 2-under. They were K.J. Choi, Francesco Molinari, Kenny Perry and Bubba Watson.
Phil Mickelson was 1-over through 7 holes. Seven-time champion Tiger Woods tees off at 1:50 p.m.
