Katsumasa Miyamoto carded an 8-under-par 62 on Saturday at the Bridgestone Invitational, a score that is one stroke off the course record on the South Course at Firestone Country Club.
Miyamoto's 62 propelled him to just two shots behind leader Retief Goosen, who tees off at 1:55 p.m.
Miyamoto scored an eagle on No. 17, birdied seven holes and bogied just one hole (No. 4). He entered Saturday tied for 58th in the standings and 10 shots behind Goosen after posting a 71 Thursday and a 72 Friday.
Tiger Woods and Jose Maria Olazabal share the course record of 61. Olazabal carded his 61 in the first round of the 1990 NEC World Series of Golf and Woods shot his 61 in the second round of the 2000 NEC Invitational. Each man won that respective year's title.
Olazabal's victory at Firestone was his first on the PGA Tour. Woods, making his 12th appearance at Firestone this year, has won seven titles in Akron.
