Buckeyes wondering how they can replace Christian Bryant

By RUSTY MILLER, AP Sports Writer Published: September 30, 2013

COLUMBUS: There were worries about quarterback Braxton Miller's health, about suspensions, about other injuries, then about beating a good Wisconsin team.

Now that those concerns have dissipated in the wake of a 31-24 victory last week, No. 4 Ohio State's coaching staff gets hit with yet another major question:

James watched Saturday’s Ohio State’s 31-24 victory against Wisconsin from the Buckeyes’ sideline Saturday night wearing a red OSU sweatshirt and a gray knit cap. He addressed the team prior to the game and also spoke briefly at the team’s pregame Skull Session in St. John Arena.

COLUMBUS: Team captain and free safety Christian Bryant suffered a broken ankle and will presumably miss the rest of the season. Urban Meyer announced the injury following Ohio State's 31-24 victory over Wisconsin and left the impression Bryant's season is over.

"That darn kid has done so much for our program, come so far," Meyer said. "Incredible leadership skills. And he's going to be even more valuable outside of football. I love that guy."

Braxton Miller throws 4 TD passes, No. 4 Ohio State edges No. 23 Wisconsin 31-24

Miller, Braxton

COLUMBUS: Up until Thursday, Urban Meyer wasn’t sure what he would do at quarterback. Speculation swirled throughout the week about the idea of playing both Braxton Miller and Kenny Guiton and no one was quite sure if Miller’s sprained left knee was ready for the pounding of the Big Ten.

On the final drive of the second quarter, everyone knew the answer. Including Miller, who admitted he was nervous how his knee would respond following a three-week layoff. So he stayed in the pocket for most of the half, delivering strikes to receivers across the field.

Braxton Miller? Kenny Guiton? Doesn't matter to No. 23 Wisconsin

By GENARO C. ARMAS, AP Sports Writer Published: September 23, 2013

MADISON, Wis.: No. 23 Wisconsin is up for the challenge of facing Ohio State's high-powered offense, regardless of who's calling the plays in the huddle.

Badgers coach Gary Andersen says it doesn't matter whether it's Braxton Miller or Kenny Guiton playing quarterback. It won't change how Wisconsin prepares for Saturday night's showdown at the Horseshoe.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — There is almost no one — except for maybe a deluded fan somewhere — who believes Florida A&M has a remote chance against fourth-ranked Ohio State on Saturday.

With a Big Ten opener a week later against rival Wisconsin, the Buckeyes will use the Rattlers as a full-dress scrimmage to iron out the final wrinkles before embarking on the games that really count.

COLUMBUS: Urban Meyer couldn't be happier that Carlos Hyde is returning to the field for No. 4 Ohio State — even though it might create some minor headaches when it comes to playing time.

Hyde missed the first three games when he was suspended after an alleged assault against a female at a Columbus bar this summer that did not lead to charges.

"I've got to make this clear: He is welcome back," Meyer said. "It's been a terrible three weeks for him. He's handled his business the right way. If he didn't handle his business the right way he wouldn't be playing in this game.

"He's been very unselfish."

Despite win, Ohio State drops to No. 3 in AP poll

By Dan Kadar Published: September 3, 2013

In this week's AP college football poll, Ohio State drops from No. 2 to 3 after beating Buffalo by fewer than betting lines would have suggested.

Part of Ohio State's drop of one spot can be attributed to Doug Lesmerises of the Plain Dealer. One of 60 AP voters, Lesmerises pushed Ohio State down to No. 9 on his ballot.
