Boren makes a surprise appearance at linebacker

By Dan Kadar Published: October 15, 2012

Zach Boren is a senior who's spent his entire career at Ohio State playing fullback.

No more.

Pressed for linebackers because of an injury to starter Etienne Sabino (broken leg), Boren showed up at that position on Saturday in the 52-49 victory over Indiana. And played well.

The Buckeyes only used two linebackers for most of the first half because Indiana was passing so much that an extra, or nickel, back was needed more than a third linebacker.

Boren started working out at LB to help out earlier in the week and ended up being a solid contributor. In his weekly news conference on Monday, coach Urban Meyer will undoubtedly assess the position and whether Boren will remain there or play on offense.
