Junior defensive end Jamal Marcus is transferring from Ohio State, several news outlets have reported this week.
Marcus started for end Noah Spence in last year's Orange Bowl and posted six tackles and a pass defended.
The departure of Marcus could mean that Canton McKinley's Steve Miller, a senior, could start the first two games of the season while Spence serves a suspension.
With Marcus gone, the Buckeyes are down to the NCAA required 82 scholarship players. The Buckeyes are still under NCAA sanction, keeping them from filling a full 85 scholarships.
The Plain Dealer reports that Marcus left due to academic reasons.
