Buckeyes win them all but still get left behind

COLUMBUS: Jack Mewhort loves college football. Yet he likely won't go out of his way to watch a single bowl game in the coming days.

What's the point, the thoughtful, red-haired Ohio State offensive lineman says, not really seeking an answer.

"Now that the season is over, you can sit around and think to yourself a little bit," he said in a voice a lot softer than you might expect coming from a body measuring 6-foot-6 and 312 pounds. "Your mind kind of wanders. We accomplished everything we possibly could.

"But you've got to keep the demons out."

Ohio State's spring game to be in Cincinnati

COLUMBUS: Ohio State's 2013 spring game will be played on the road.

Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati will host the April 13 scrimmage because of renovations at Ohio Stadium.

The Buckeyes went 12-0 under first-year coach Urban Meyer this past season and return 14 starters, including nine on offense.

Ohio State will be resurfacing the seating areas at Ohio Stadium, prompting the change of venue to a city where Meyer played football for the University of Cincinnati. He is a 1986 graduate with a degree in psychology.

Ohio State DT Johnathan Hankins entering NFL Draft

Ohio State junior defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins is entering the 2013 NFL Draft, according to a report issued by the university.

"I have enjoyed coaching and getting to know Johnathan Hankins over the past year," OSU head coach Urban Meyer said in the release. "The coaching staff and I wish him all the best."

Hankins has played in 38 games over three seasons and started his sophomore and junior years. Hankins finished his junior season with 55 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack. In 2011, he was fourth on the team in tackles with 67, to go along with 11 tackles for loss.

“My three years at The Ohio State University have provided amazing experiences for me, and they are years I will never forget or take for granted,” Hankins said in the relase. “My plans are to return to finish my degree and to continue to be a part of this brotherhood of Buckeyes. I am so appreciative for the support I have received from my teammates, the coaching staff and administrators at Ohio State, and of course, my family.”

Most consider the 6-foot-3, 317-pound Hankins to be a first-round pick in April's draft. Mel Kiper of ESPN has him rated (In$ider link) as the 17th-best draft-eligible player in the nation.

Canton McKinley sophomore Eric Glover-Williams has reportedly been offered by Ohio State, according to Glover-Williams, who is 5 feet 11 and 165 pounds, also reportedly has an offer from Nebraska.

Buckeyes steal Michigan commit Gareon Conley

Ohio State's football season may be over on the field, but its heating up off it.

The Buckeyes added their 18th player in the 2013 recruiting class today, getting a commitment from Massillon Washington's Gareon Conley. He initially committed to Michigan.

Conley took an official visit to Columbus this week.

The cornerback is rated as a 17th best corneback in the nation by, and 42nd by

College football national signing day is in February.

Former Buckeyes RB Eddie George snares job at Ohio State

COLUMBUS: Ohio State University says Heisman Trophy winner and former Tennessee Titans star running back Eddie George is returning to his alma mater as assistant vice president for business advancement.

His new duties at Ohio State include promoting health and wellness initiatives, helping with fundraising and alumni relations, and mentoring student-athletes about professional development. The school announced George's role Tuesday.
