Ohio State players say first practice intense

By RUSTY MILLER / AP Sports Writer Published: August 3, 2012

COLUMBUS: Ohio State's veterans, some of whom had trouble sleeping the night before they were so excited, crawled out of bed at 4 a.m. on Friday to prepare for their first day of practice under head coach Urban Meyer.

Beating the heat by starting at daybreak, the Buckeyes swore there was more excitement and more intensity than a typical opening practice of fall camp.

Quarterback Braxton Miller — who Meyer calls the most dynamic player he has ever coached — worked on his passes. Meyer plans on throwing a lot to energize a team that went just 6-7 a year ago and, thanks to NCAA violations, won't be going to a bowl game after this season.

Incoming freshmen took the field for the first time later in the day.
