WHAT’S AT STAKE
This might be the most significant game of the season in the Big Ten. The winner has the inside track to the East Division title and remains in the mix for college football’s new four-team playoff. The loser becomes an afterthought. For Ohio State, there is extra incentive after the Buckeyes missed a chance to play for the national title last season because of their loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten championship game.
Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett vs. Michigan State’s secondary. The Buckeyes were able to run the ball on the Spartans last year, but Ohio State’s Braxton Miller completed only eight passes and Michigan State prevailed 34-24. Miller is injured this year, leaving Barrett taking the snaps as a redshirt freshman.
Ohio State freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett is one of 16 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award, given annually to the nation's top quarterback.
Barrett is the only freshman on the list. He and Michigan State's Connor Cook are the only Big Ten players on the list.
Barrett is third in the country in passing efficiency (172.7), eighth in passing touchdowns (23) and fourth in points responsible for (174).To read more or comment...

This Ohio State Buckeyes 55-14 win over the Illinois Fighting Illini was never close. It was over in the first quarter for all practical purposes and anyone who watched it objectively knew it at halftime when it was 31-0.
So what exactly was it? A scrimmage. One that made observers wish for a running clock. Here are some observations through weary eyes.
This was little more than a practice session for next week against the Michigan State Spartans: Offensively the Buckeyes played like it and Urban Meyer coached like it. How else can two fourth down tries [both failed] be explained? They broke open the playbook to give Mark Dantonio and his team a lot to look at, analyze and think about. To read more or comment...
