Ohio State recruiting: Buckeyes add two more commits

Ohio State's 2013 football recruiting class continues to grow. The team added two more verbal commmitments this week, bringing the total to 14.

Today, Pendleton (S.C.) defensive tackle Michael Hill committetd to Ohio State. He's rated as a four-star prospect by every major recruiting service. Rivals.com rates the 6-foot-2, 315-pound Hill as the fifth-best defensive tackle in the country.

Ohio State's Jared Sullinger not invited to NBA Draft

Last week a report surfaced that Ohio State forward Jared Sullinger received a medical red flag during NBA Draft preparation. The issue is Sullinger's back and it has caused him to plummet in the eyes of the media.

As a result, Sullinger was not invited by the NBA to attend the draft in New Jersey on Thursday. Here is Sullinger's reaction:

Ohio State recruiting: Punter Johnny Townsend commits to Buckeyes

Ohio State 2013 football class added its 12th commit this week in punter Johnny Townsend.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Townsend averaged 42 yards a punt last season. His only other scholarship offer was a to Cincinnati.

Adding Townsend, who is 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, may be critical to the Ohio State recruiting class. Senior Ben Buchanan is the only punter on the roster on scholarship.

Townsend is not the typical unathletic specialist. His highlight tape (which you can see below) claims he runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, can bench perss 260 pounds and has a vertical leap of 33 inches.

Ohio State's 2013 spring game could be held in Cincinnati

Ohio State University is in discussion wtih the Cincinnati Bengals and Hamilton County to bring next year's spring football game to Paul Brown Stadium.

The game is scheduled for April 13, which coincides with renovation work being done at Ohio Stadium.

Court backs Ohio State in open records lawsuit

COLUMBUS: The Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday sided with Ohio State University in an open records lawsuit brought by ESPN over documents it sought from the university related to the 2011 football team scandal and NCAA investigation.

The network had sued the university alleging it violated state public records law by denying requests for items regarding the forced resignation of football coach Jim Tressel and star quarterback Terrelle Pryor.

Ohio State pays Urban Meyer $4 million, clearer on violations

Ohio State is paying football coach Urban Meyer a minimum of $4 million annually — more money than his predecessor — and detailing in the contract what he's required to do if an NCAA rules violation occurs under his watch.

The university completed details of Meyer's contract and released it on Monday. The school's board of trustees is expected to approve it later in the week.

Two suspended OSU players have summer scholarships removed

Ohio State football players Jake Stoneburner and Jack Mewhort pleaded guilty on Friday after running from police earlier this month following alleged public urination.

Stoneburner, Mewhort and a third man who is not on the football team, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and paid a fine of $299.

Urban Meyer shows up at camp in Michigan, eats barbecue with Brady Hoke

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. Urban Meyer is trying to make his presence felt in rival territory.

The new Ohio State coach was at a Michigan high school Wednesday, one of several coaches on hand at a football camp just outside of Detroit. Meyer gave a brief speech to the campers, who came from all over the country to attend the Sound Mind, Sound Body Academy at Southfield High School.

Ohio State Buckeyes center Brian Bobek transferring

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Ohio State center Brian Bobek has decided to transfer.

Bobek, a sophomore, was surpassed on the depth chart by junior Corey Linsley and freshman Jacoby Boren. In a statement, Bobek said he is contemplating a team in the Big 12 (believed to be West Virginia) or teams in the Big Ten.

Buckeyes' 2013 recruiting class rated 7th nationally by ESPN

ESPN released its first set of rankings for the 2013 football class. With six of their 11 commitments in the ESPN150, the Buckeyes come in rated seventh.

Head recruiting analyst Tom Luginbill noted that Ohio State has done a "very nice job, particularly knowing they've got some sanctions."

"It's a very positive class and a good start for Ohio State," Luginbill said.

The Buckeyes' class is paced by Eli Woodard, ESPN's No. 3 cornerback in the class. They also have the No. 4 cornerback in Cam Burrows.

NCAA Football '13 team ratings: Buckeyes rate highly

Team rankings for NCAA Football '13 have leaked and the Buckeyes are rated near the top. EA Sports gave the Buckeyes a 95 overall rating, which ties them for 13th with six other teams.

The game, out on July 10 on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, gives OSU the highest team prestige of six. Only 13 teams in the game received that distinction. All of this information comes courtesy of Tradition Sports Online.

Big Ten prefers plus-1 to 4-team playoff

CHICAGO: Big Ten administrators would prefer a plus-one system over a four-team playoff to determine a national champion if the BCS can't be maintained in its current form.

Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman said conference presidents would choose to keep the current BCS system as is if there were a vote today. But he added change appears to be inevitable. In the plus-one format, the bowl games would be played, and then the top two teams would meet for the title.

Ohio State's Jake Stoneburner and Jack Mewhort suspended indefinitely

Following their arrests on charges of obstructing official business Saturday, Ohio State's Jack Mewhort and Jake Stoneburner have been suspended indefinitely.

A Columbus attorney told the Toledo Blade that until their cases are settled, both will be barred from the OSU football facilities. The two players (and a third person) were caught allegedly urinating outside a restaurant near Stoneburner's home. When they saw a spotlight, they reportedly fled the scene before stopping. A 10tv.com report notes that an officer chasing the trio broke his thumb after falling. As the site notes, had the trio not fled, they would have received a citation that is equivalent to a traffic ticket.
