Ohio State junior defensive end Joey Bosa declined to say he was leaving early for the NFL this week in order to avoid taking the focus off Friday's matchup with Notre Dame in the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl.
Projected as the No. 1 overall pick, Bosa said he would make his intentions known for the April 28-30 NFL Draft after the game. But in the final press conference Thursday morning at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn, OSU coach Urban Meyer let Bosa's intentions slip.
Asked about players on the OSU roster likely bound for the 2016 draft, Meyer said, "Three of them have already said they're going to leave, that's Zeke, Joey, Cardale. It is a very good junior class. I take my hat off to them because I know what's out there. I know the agents. I know the pressures that are being put.
"I can relate it back to 2008, I believe, or '09, where we had at least 12 to 15 guys put in paperwork for the NFL Draft. It's tough on them."To read more or comment...
Ohio State backup quarterback Cardale Jones reiterated that his plan is to enter the 2016 NFL Draft.
"I don't want to be a 24-year-old college student," Jones said Wednesday at media day for the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn. "I have one more semester of school left, that was my whole focus of coming back. Two classes is not going to affect my decision of coming back to college."
Jones said he is on track to graduate in June. The draft is April 28-30.
Jones indicated he would soon be a pro when he tweeted after a Nov. 21 loss to Michigan State that it was his last game at Ohio Stadium. He will leave with an 11-0 record as a starter. To read more or comment...
Yearning for more in the Ohio State-Notre Dame rivalry?
An agreement for a home-and-home series between the two Midwest powerhouses was reached in 2014. The Buckeyes will host the Irish on Sept. 3, 2022 at Ohio Stadium. The series moves to South Bend, Ind., on Sept. 23, 2023.
The schools will meet for only the sixth time Friday at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
Ohio State is 3-2 all-time against Notre Dame. The Irish swept a home-and-home series in 1935-36 and the Buckeyes did the same in 1995-96. The two last squared off in the 2006 Fiesta Bowl, with Ohio State winning 34-20.To read more or comment...
Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott said he wasn't aware that his license was suspended, which led to one of his three citations in a Sunday afternoon car accident just before the Buckeyes were to leave for Phoenix to play in Friday's BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl.
Police told the Columbus Dispatch the junior was cited for driving under suspension, operating without a license and failure to control. According to the Dispatch, Elliott's car collided with a vehicle carrying two people on Route 315 at Lane Avenue.

Ohio State junior defensive end Joey Bosa will announce whether he will declare for the NFL Draft Friday after the Buckeyes take on Notre Dame in the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl. But his mind already seems to be made up.
It wasn't hard to tell which way Bosa was leaning Monday during pre-bowl interviews at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn in Scottsdale, Ariz. Projected as a candidate to be taken No. 1 overall, Bosa sounded as if the 1 p.m. game at the University of Phoenix Stadium will be his last.
"I have my decision and you guys will know after the game," Bosa said. "I'm trying to focus on the game right now. I don't want to take any attention away from the team, be a distraction."To read more or comment...

Ohio State senior defensive tackle Adolphus Washington's career at Ohio State is over.
The senior was suspended for the Fiesta Bowl after being cited for solicitation by Columbus police on Wednesday night. Washington was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor.
Ohio State announced the suspension in an email Friday. Head coach Urban Meyer provided no further comment.
"I want to sincerely apologize to my family, to coach Meyer and the coaching staff, to my teammates and my friends for my lack of judgment last night, and for my actions that I truly regret," Washington said in a statement earlier this week. "I have wanted to be a high-character teammate, a contributor to the success of this program, and — most importantly — someone my family can be proud of.To read more or comment...
Those looking for Christmas gifts for Buckeye fans might consider the new book, "The Thrillogy" (available online only at http://photozoneLLC.com, $24.99 plus $2.99 shipping).
Written by Tony Gerdeman and John Porentas of the web site, theozone.net, "The Thrillogy" concentrates on the final three games of Ohio State's 2014 national championship season. It examines the 59-0 victory over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship, the 42-35 triumph over Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinals and the 42-20 victory over Oregon for the CFP title.
The chapters are short and can stand alone. Gerdeman and Porentas cleverly carry the "three" theme -- three quarterbacks, three Heisman candidates, three misconceptions, three key injuries, three perfect plays by Evan Spencer -- throughout the book.
The 268 pages also include boxscores, boxes of interesting facts about the games and color photographs from ozone staffers. My favorite -- although Archie Griffin presenting the Big Ten championship MVP trophy to Cardale Jones is a close second -- is of St. Vincent-St. Mary product Doran Grant making a snow angel in the confetti after the title game that graces the back cover. To read more or comment...
