What kind of new(ish) car should I buy?

By Steven S. Brooks Published: September 23, 2008

As typical of most car guys, I've never seen a collector car I didn't. Yes, I truly suffer from a severe case of Automotive Attention Deficit Disorder (AADD) when it comes to old cars.  The only limiting factor I've ever had in acquiring these relics has been the current state of my personal economic status.

Now, when it comes to acquiring a daily driver, I am the world's greatest procrastinator. I don't know why this is the case but it has been the history of my life. Maybe because, unlike the vast majority of people, I view cars as objects of desire as opposed to tools of transportation to be used and disposed of. Whatever the reason, the time has come for a new steed for my daily commute and I am asking you, the loyal readers of and Car Chase to help ease the pain of my mission.

Because of the nature of my day job and my family situation, I need a full-size, four door sedan. Due to the nature of my personality, it has to be relatively sporty and fun to drive. It can be new or a late model, low mileage used car with some factory warranty. The very top price should not exceed $40k but I would be very happy to spend a lot less. Please help my decision making by leaving your suggestions in the comment area below. Additionally, if you've had a very positive experience with a local dealer, I would love to know about that too.
