Why Four Wheels are Better than Three
Yesterday's post of cars of the future from 1948 featured a rocket shape three-wheeler from California, the Davis. As with most radical designs, its promise was greater than its delivery and only seventeen were ever made.
Today's post features the Reliant Robin. A British vehicle which has the distinction of being the most highly produced three-wheeler in history. As you can see in the hilarious piece from Top Gear, it wasn't much better than the Davis!

A View into the Cars of Tomorrow from 1948
In today's world, the discussion is often whether cars will even exist in the future. If so, will they be powered by electricity, natural gas or even hydrogen? Well, things were more cut and dried in 1948. They were also more optimistic. Of course cars would be everywhere in future and surely they would look like spaceships! The people that made this cool film in 1948 would have definitely been disappointed in the boxy and inefficient creations Detroit was spewing out in the seventies and eighties.
